Petra‘s tasked by the queen to investigate the murder of the head matron of the London Asylum for Female Orphans—it also cleanly ties up the cliffhanger from the first book as she also learns more about her fiancé‘s death 3 years earlier. As the threads tie together, the plot falls into predictable paths. I didn‘t love the deceptive friends but did love the dogs!
