so-soMy least favorite book from Phoebe Wahl. This is about Sonya and her chickens. She did lose a chick and had to bury her but took care of the rest of the chickens so no other ones would die. Graphics were good. I just couldn't get into the story.
Rereading for details: the kids ask why Bob has a cast in only this picture. I told them I'd ask the author. They didn't believe me. I messaged him on Instagram, and he got back to me within the hour. "Bob has gout, a build up of Utica (sic uric) acid in the joints of his foot. It's from a diet of very rich food. It was referenced as '"The disease of kings'" because only the wealthy class could afford such culinary luxuries."

i enjoy so much how rob dunn writes about the missing parts of us in a way that makes you forget that he‘s talking about intestinal worms. it‘s so easy to flinch in disgust over bugs & bacteria, but dunn just gently insists they‘re essential to our bodies & lives.
Soooo, in rearranging my books from overstuffed shelves and assorted other locations, I have come to the conclusion that I should actually try reading all the Owlcrate books I've accumulated - I've read 3(?) I think. This shelf is MOST of the ones I haven't gotten to yet. Which should I read first? HELP!
This is in our backyard looking to the fenced garden in our western neighbor‘s yard. More dogwood/azalea combos!
We‘ve got good buds on the peonies and clematis. Our irises are late-blooming, but they‘re growing!
But honestly, I can‘t wait for you to see the calla lilies later in the summer. They were a bonus with the house and they flourish pretty much on their own. It‘s wild!

My favorite flowers are peonies and irises, if forced to choose. This is our east-facing peony with lots of buds getting ready to burst! Will post more as they open!
