So I just downloaded this from the library for my Kobo and my Kobo chose this moment to blow up. 🥴 So I ran to the bookstore and just bought a copy. Which is fine because I do love this cover. I read a complaint by someone saying they don‘t like the paper Coach House uses for their books. Personally, I love it. It‘s like card stock. #ShadowGiller

Lindy I love the paper stock too. It‘s a beautifully designed book. 2y

Having to put Daisy Darker aside to get reading the entire Shortlist of the #GillerPrize for my #ShadowGiller duties. First up is the book I actually own, I bought since it sounds so like a book I‘ll love, I just hadn‘t read it yet! @Lindy

The Giller shortlist will be announced tomorrow morning. I‘ve circled my favourites, the ones I hope to see chosen. Three are by Indigenous authors, at least two are by queer authors and three authors are from my home province, Alberta. Am I biased? There are four that I haven‘t yet read, so I put a ? on those covers.

Penny_LiteraryHoarders Your Shortlist hopefuls look very, very similar to mine. 2y
Penny_LiteraryHoarders I‘m thinking A Minor Chorus over All the Quiet Places and Avenue of Champions. It has lasting impact (for me at least) and definitely more impact then Quiet Places. * my opinion * 2y
Lindy @Penny_LiteraryHoarders Yes, Minor Chorus makes quite an impact. Oof! I think All the Quiet Places has more general appeal, despite its quietness, but of the three Indigenous books, Minor Chorus is most deserving of literary recognition. 2y

Pickpick

Should this book make the #Giller Shortlist (which I fully expect) dare I say it could very well be the winner? I say this after only reading 4 of the 14 on the Longlist. #ShadowGiller @Lindy

Lindy Could make the shortlist… That‘s good to hear! I‘m picking up my copy today. 2y

Next up for #ShadowGiller reading. @Lindy

Lindy Fingers crossed that it‘s a hit. I‘ve got a copy waiting for pickup at Glass Bookshop in downtown Edmonton. (edited) 2y
Penny_LiteraryHoarders @Lindy I hope so too! I think this is the shortest one? 2y
Lindy @Penny_LiteraryHoarders How long is it? I‘ve just finished Mouth to Mouth, which is 179 pages. 2y
Penny_LiteraryHoarders @Lindy huh! So is A Minor Chorus! 179 pages! I thought Mouth to Mouth was much longer for some reason. 2y

Pickpick

I fully expect to see this thought provoking collection of interconnected stories on the #Giller Shortlist. #ShadowGiller @Lindy

Lindy I don‘t know. It‘s definitely got some bumpy first novel awkwardness, yet there‘s an emotional honesty that really shines. I will be happy if it makes the shortlist but I‘m not sure it will. 2y
Penny_LiteraryHoarders @Lindy I agree with you on the first novel awkwardness for sure Lindy! I liked the characters, and again it was the ending made it stand out for me. I mean, I‘ve only read 3 or 4 from the Longlist so who knows! I have to look again at the full Longlist, but I wouldn‘t be disappointed to see this one advance. 2y

Pickpick

A book that haunts after the final page. The last quarter of this one had the most impact for me and that ending. Oh that ending. #ShadowGiller @Lindy

Lindy We are such different readers, Penny. I thought the first half was stronger than the second! 2y
Penny_LiteraryHoarders @Lindy 😊 I liked the beginning, yes, it was the middle that was long for me, but that ending. 😔 2y

Mehso-so

It‘s pretty dry. Kind of dull and plodding. My first of the #Giller Longlist though so I‘m not weighing in on whether or not it will make the Shortlist. Although right at this moment I would hope not. 😬 #ShadowGiller @Lindy

Lindy Good luck with the next one on your list, Penny. I hope I will like this one better than you did. 🤷‍♀️ (edited) 2y
Penny_LiteraryHoarders @Lindy ☺️☺️ I‘ve started All the Quiet Places. This one wasn‘t bad - it was just kind of dull to me. 🫣 2y
