Early and rare warm evening, great for finishing this book on the porch. I loved this book, but lost some patience with abrupt scene changes. It's a great middle grade read that touches on mental illness (without the drama of suicide). It's rare to see budding romances at this level, but some kids crave that. 🏝 🇻🇬 #LGBTQ 🌈 #rainbowlibrary 🏳️🌈 #kidsneedtoseethemselves #bannedbook 🚫
TheBookHippie I liked this one! 3y
mandarchy @TheBookHippie I like her characterization of the other girls at school. Her main character was so completely alone at times. 3y
TheBookHippie @mandarchy Yes. Reminded me of my childhood a bit. I can see this book being so helpful to so many readers. Did you read Felix ever after? 3y

mandarchy @TheBookHippie not yet. I am not aware of it. Is it the same author? I just down loaded a Kelly Barnhill book. I'm trying to put off adult fiction until school gets out. So I'm on a middle grade kick. 🙃 I'll go see if I can find Felix. 3y
TheBookHippie @mandarchy same author - YA I believe . 3y
mandarchy @TheBookHippie I'll have to put it off with the adult fiction. My oldest students are 11. 3y
TheBookHippie @mandarchy I get that! My oldest students currently are 8 ♥️. 3y
mandarchy @TheBookHippie I'm really happy they made Hurricane Child MG. We need more rainbow reads, one- so kids can see themselves and two- to normalize lgbtq identity. I'm glad publishers are diversifying, the book banning will hopeful drive sales. I feel bad for kids living in communities that squash their being, hopefully they find these books on their own. 3y
TheBookHippie @mandarchy I whole heartedly agree! 3y
