Gave me so much joy.
It was good self care to start my day with coffee and a portion of the monthly read❤️📖.

Anyone welcome
Big no pressure thing
Just read.

NeedsMoreBooks I am joining this as I haven‘t read too many from this list 😭😭 20h
Bookwormjillk How fun! 19h
GingerAntics I haven‘t read any of these, so I‘d love to give it a go. I loved Anne of Green Gables as a child, so I‘ve always wanted to explore more of LM Montgomery‘s works. I love dragons, so the second one looks fun. Isn‘t that one illustrated by the same guy that did Winnie the Pooh? My life is complete! Count me in!!! 18h
See All 8 Comments
Lifeisasnap Great selection of books. The Emily of New Moon series is even more of a favorite series than Anne of Green Gables, and Anne is my kindred spirit! 😉 18h
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics YES!! I had the same feelings about reading more LM Montgomery. I think it is. I was doing research to find children‘s classics. These all spoke to me on some level. This past year doing this practice has helped my stress level more than one would imagine 15-20 even 10 minutes could do in the morning. ❤️📖 17h
TheBookHippie @NeedsMoreBooks as many children‘s books as I‘ve read I still find lovely new to me books to read. It‘s amazing how many get overlooked. 17h
GingerAntics I‘ve also noticed the vast majority (if not all) are in the public domain, so it‘s literally free to read these. I find quality children‘s literature still speaks to adults and there are many added layers, possibly for the adults that may end up reading these to kids. 16h
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics I ended up reading all my 2019 books aloud to kids and teens alike. They loved it. Should be free to read them all, I tried anyway ❤️ I agree to the layers it‘s all just so good. ! 16h

Emilymdxn Wow I thought I‘d do so well on this list and I‘ve only read six of them! They‘re really right in the beginning where they say narrative nonfiction is easily overlooked 3d
TheBookHippie @Emilymdxn I‘m over here writing down books to add to my TBR and I read a ton of nonfiction ❤️😂📖 but I think they‘re right. It‘s overlooked. 3d
8little_paws I've read 10 of them and added a bunch to my list. Sorry but no matter how many times I'm told it's amazing I'm still not reading any more DFW, nor am I picking Barbarian Days 😃 3d
See All 12 Comments
Nebklvr I am at 6 too with many that have been on my TBR fir quite awhile😭 3d
GingerAntics I‘m not sure I agree with some of this list. I read more nonfiction than fiction, and I haven‘t read a single book on this list. It seems most of the list is memoirs and exposés. There is a world of nonfiction outside of this list that isn‘t even considered here. I think I added one book from this list to my Wish List and another one was already on it. I‘m kind of “eh” on this list. 3d
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics I picked up some TBR 🤦🏽‍♀️ and some I‘d never read 🤣🤣 I love reading these lists -it‘s always interesting to me. So far fellow littens are the best critics. 3d
Suet624 Thank you! I question some of their choices as well, but some sound pretty interesting. 3d
VioletBramble I read a lot of nonfiction- mostly science and nature books. I‘ve only read 9 books on this list. 3 more titles are on my wish list. The rest didn‘t interest me. 3d
GingerAntics The TBR is always growing. 🤣😂🤣 Nonfiction is such a large genre, it‘s almost not even a genre, but a family/group of genres. 3d
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics RIGHT?? I prefer nonfiction for me reading time and it‘s so varied in subject matter I agree. 3d
Scochrane26 How do they not have Ta-nehisi Coates on here?! 2d

GingerAntics I need to get Netflix again so I can watch the new season. I am SO excited! 3d

Lauraandherbooks I have it saved to my list but I haven‘t even seen a single episode yet 3d
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics Some of the idiotic happenings ... 🤣 of course I‘m now alive in this era portrayed ..so I remember some of it in real time ... 3d
GingerAntics Oh wow that is a trip! Oh my god I need to hurry up and get paid!!! I need to see this! lol 3d
TheBookHippie @Lauraandherbooks ACK it is so well written the dialog ❤️❤️❤️❤️ then the filming is just phenomenal, actors are stunningly talented ! 3d
Lauraandherbooks I was afraid it would be cheesy or tacky , but I will definitely get started on it , thanks! 3d
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics I think the writing is even better in this one. 3d
TheBookHippie @Lauraandherbooks Some of it I was like WOE ...okay then 😳 a bit of nudity- but it proves it‘s point. It‘s really interesting. 3d
Lauraandherbooks I had watched some documentary about them that turned out to be very unsatisfactory- it showed them in a manner I definitely did not like and I hope they aren‘t really like that 3d
TheBookHippie @Lauraandherbooks I think taking this in as a whole I have come to admire them more for their humanness and I absolutely respect Elizabeth so much more, and appreciate how wounded Charles childhood affected him, the choices they had thrust upon them -their sense of duty and honor is remarkable. 3d
AmyG Oh, it‘s not cheesy at all. Great writing and yes @TheBookHippie I also think the writing is better. And I am thrilled to be in an era I remember. Yes...I can not begin to imagine the weight of being the King or Queen of England. Also what the family has to deal with. (edited) 3d
TheBookHippie @AmyG It‘s sooooo good 😭😭😭❤️ 3d
Hamlet The series is great... and so is this play! 3d
TheBookHippie @Hamlet two favorites !!! It‘s so much fun. 3d

Anything we‘ve missed?

Who is the top person here pulling all the shots making all these lives intertwine ?
Does life intertwine by one small decision making fate happen?
Are you liking the book better or worse ?!
Why did the author write this story do you think ?

Sargar114 I‘m enjoying this book much more than I was after the first section. I worry though because it feels like a story where anything could happen and that gives me all kinds of anxiety about what will actually happen. I‘m hopeful for Charlotte and the girls, but I just don‘t know. As for who‘s running the show, it‘s tough to tell. Ed seems like he has a lot of pull, but after the last correspondence with Barone there seems to be a bigger picture 4d
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 It has far more layers than I ever anticipated . It is written very well. I can‘t wait to finish it. 4d
kspenmoll I feel all kinds of anxiety reading it as well, and have had to put it down. I really have no clue how things will end. 4d
See All 6 Comments
Mdargusch This is such a good book! 4d
Hooked_on_books Carlos and Seraphine seem to be the puppet masters here—everything goes back to them. I think this book is terrific. It‘s well-paced, had a very engaging plot, and subtle but clear character development along the way. Really good balance, masterful storytelling. 3d
Librarybelle I'm enjoying it more than I did after reading the first section. It's compelling, and as @Sargar114 and @kspenmoll point out, very anxiety driven. 3d

Are you afraid for literally everyone‘s life now?!

JaclynW Yep! 4d
Mitch The pace if the book is really good - its running at high speed and I can't see anything but heartbreak ahead! 4d
TheBookHippie @Mitch I know!!!!! 4d

Sargar114 Yes...so much yes. I‘m so anxious and nauseous at the end of this section. 4d
Mitch @Sargar114 It was hard to stop at my post it note - i really wanted to read on! 4d
CoffeeNBooks Yes! I hate that Charlotte and her girls are mixed up with Frank, because I'm afraid things are going to end very poorly for them just because of their association with him, even though they don't know anything about who he really is. 4d
kspenmoll Yes. I am afraid they will all be hurt, killed something. I cannot help but like this Frank though. 4d
Mdargusch @Mitch I couldn‘t do it. I finished the book. 🙄 4d
Hooked_on_books Yes. No one is safe here. “Nature red in tooth and claw” came to me early in the book and it‘s only getting more that way. I agree @Mitch , it was so hard to put down! And @CoffeeNBooks I have so much dread wondering what is going to happen to them. 3d
Librarybelle Yikes! Either we're in for a lot of action in the last section, or the build up will culminate into nothing. The pieces are in place for one crazy ride in the last quarter of the book! 3d
Mitch @Librarybelle I have my fingers and toes crossed for a dramatic - fitting finale! 3d
Mitch @Mdargusch 🤣🤣🤣 3d

The Cindy girl on the boat is so strange, burnt out, almost robotic, do you think the ghost was a murderer girl who talked ? Is it a forewarning?

Mitch She seemed completed drugged up and burnt out - a harsh reminder of what a groupie lifestyle can be... 4d
Sargar114 I completely think the ghost was a murdered snitch, probably by Ed himself. I don‘t know if it‘s foreshadowing but it looks like Charlotte got the idea real quick 4d
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Sargar114 I agree!! I bet she‘s thinking “get me off this damn boat!” 4d
See All 9 Comments
kspenmoll @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks And she wanted Cindy away from her kids. 4d
Mdargusch Yes. The murdered “ghost” definitely did something wrong. Cindy should be very scared. 4d
Hooked_on_books I think this was the woman from the CIA who was bumped up from the secretarial pool to infiltrate the organization and Ed killed her. And Charlotte understands clearly this was a real woman. 3d
Librarybelle Good connection, @Hooked_on_books ! I hadn't thought about that, only that the “ghost“ was someone murdered for doing something wrong or knowing too much. Makes sense to me! 3d

Was Ed and his house of teenagers bizarre or what ? Did it help you realize the time we were reading about ? All the social issues happening at this time?

JaclynW CRAZ-I-NESS!! It does seem reflective of the time AND place. Hello Vegas! 🙈🙉🙊 4d
Mitch It definitely placed the book again back in that time frame - it was sleazy, creepy and had a real menacing air over it.. 4d
Sargar114 Such a weird moment...again agree with @Mitch such a dark tone to it all 4d
See All 11 Comments
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I was definitely freaked out by the frozen fish fight!!! 4d
kspenmoll @Mitch @JaclynW @Sargar114 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I had to remind myself the time the book wS set in & all the changes on so many levels in society & culture in the 60s. Creepy says it. 4d
Mdargusch It reminded me of Charles Manson and his creepy followers. 4d
TheBookHippie @Mdargusch RIGHT??? There were several back then. Just creepy. @Sargar114 4d
Hooked_on_books Completely creepy. And it says a lot about who Ed is, lest we forget how much danger both Frank and Charlotte are in. (edited) 3d
Librarybelle Utterly creepy. I too thought of Manson and his followers, @Mdargusch , while I was reading this. I'm cringing just thinking of it! 3d

The kid. The Green Book. Can you believe Barone shot him and left him in the ditch ??!?!?!?

JaclynW This made me so sad! I thought they were developing a real relationship. It definitely shows who Barrone is though. I liked the kid. 4d
Mitch I know - that was so distressing - he had so many dreams and aspirations for his life ahead of him... another greatly drawn side character 4d
Sargar114 😭😭😭 I was shocked cause I hope for the best in people...but not surprised. So sad, I liked Theodore (not Ted or Teddy) 4d
See All 12 Comments
Sargar114 I agree with @JaclynW definitely showed Barron‘s character 🤮 4d
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 I was holding out a tiny hope as well. 4d
CoffeeNBooks I wasn't expecting that at all, though I should have, considering what Barrone is like. 4d
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I didn‘t see this coming... As mean as he is I thought he would let him go.. 😓😓😓 4d
kspenmoll I was shocked & felt awful- as @Mitch said, a well drawn character. 4d
Mdargusch That was the most cold hearted move ever. 4d
Hooked_on_books I wasn‘t surprised at all. I felt from the first time they crossed paths that this kid was unlikely to survive. I‘ve seen references to the Green Book before. Great idea but it‘s a pathetic statement about our society that it would be needed. 3d
Librarybelle I had a feeling this would happen, but it still hurt to read. 3d
JaclynW @kspenmoll @Mitch Well drawn character indeed. 3d

What did you think of Charlottes phone call to her Aunt! ? Is she becoming more of her old self, a new self or just gaining confidence? What about her Aunt?

I‘ll have your cupboard ready 🤣🤪.

AmyG Charlotte showed she had “moxy”. She confronted the aunt and gained respect. I got the impression the aunt likes strong women. I get the impression the aunt is a strong woman who doesn‘t live within the social norms of the time. (edited) 4d
TheBookHippie @AmyG I hope we get to find out!!! 4d
JaclynW @AmyG That's exactly how I saw the aunt too. I think the second phone call proved that Charlotte was a lot like her aunt, thus the aunt's willingness to let her come stay. I would like to k ow more of her story too. I'm guessing they are two peas in a pod when it comes right down to it. 4d
See All 13 Comments
Mitch @AmyG Agre - i think her aunt liked her more by the end of the conversation than she did at the start! 4d
Mitch Im not sure Charlotte is going back to her pre-married self - i think she was too young at point to have that self formed....this seems a whole new Charlotte that has been in the making for a while. 4d
Sargar114 I agree @Mitch Definitely a new Charlotte but someone that has always been there and is now forced to present herself. I too love the aunt, she‘s a no nonsense kinda gal so the first call was more of a get your life together and stop wasting my time. The second call was like, okay, you have a plan and you got the guts to pull it off, I can work with this! 4d
CoffeeNBooks I think Charlotte is gaining confidence, and won't take no for an answer from her aunt. I think the aunt respects that. 4d
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I really hope we get to see more of the aunt!! 4d
kspenmoll @Mitch @AmyG @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Sargar114 @CoffeeNBooks Such a change from her first call. I think her aunt was surprised, then delighted in the new emerging Charlotte. 4d
Mitch @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks yes! I bet she‘s got some stories to tell! 4d
Mdargusch The aunt definitely appreciated her new found confidence. 4d
Hooked_on_books @AmyG I tend to agree. Plus I think this part of Charlotte has always been there but she was never allowed to be this person. Now she is making her own decisions and finding her own way, allowing this more forceful self to come to the forefront. 4d
Librarybelle Yes, @AmyG ...I think Charlotte's aunt likes strong women and was impressed with this side of Charlotte. I think Charlotte is gaining confidence in herself and in her situation. Confidence does amazing things. 3d

What did you think of Frank and Charlotte sleeping together ? Did it free her? Or liberate her? Was it necessary for the story?

AmyG I think it was necessary. He was a one and done guy. But she held his interest. And yes, she could be more free. What did she have to lose? 4d
RachelAmphlett I agree it was necessary from a story sense but I wonder if the tables are turning - does he need her more than she needs him? 4d
TheBookHippie @RachelAmphlett I think so at this point. 4d
See All 14 Comments
TheBookHippie @AmyG one and done 🤪 I think she intrigued him or reminds him of another life. 4d
JaclynW @RachelAmphlett Yes, I think so too. 4d
JaclynW @amyg @RachelAmphlett @thebookhippie I love seeing Charlotte discover herself. This was part of it I think 4d
Mitch @RachelAmphlett I agree - I think she's finding her strength easily and her youthfulness and resilience are doing her good service. I did worry about the kids being on their own though.... 4d
Sargar114 It felt inevitable, but I like that Charlotte seemed to be the one to initiate it. I agree with the others she‘s finding herself and her strength and Frank is also finding himself in a way. Maybe more a version of himself he never thought possible. 4d
AmyG Good point @RachelAmphlett about him needing her more. Perhaps that will be his downfall? 4d
Sargar114 @AmyG I can totally seeing it being his downfall. I‘d be surprised if he actually gets close to the plane to Vietnam 4d
kspenmoll @Sargar114 I thought there sleeping together was inevitable but I too lived that she took the initiative herself & She is finding out who she is & puts that first. 4d
Mdargusch I was shocked first of all since came from such a conservative life. It definitely liberated her from her past. 4d
Hooked_on_books I think it was freeing for Charlotte and helps to show the evolution of Frank‘s character. I worry about how badly Charlotte is going to be hurt in the end. 4d
Librarybelle I knew a relationship would begin. It's interesting to see how they are both using this as an opportunity to grow - we're seeing a more human side to Frank (the scene with Joan, his daydreaming of sorts about what life could be), and we're seeing Charlotte become a bit more liberated and in charge of her situation. 3d

Franks interactions with Joan at the bus depot, did your opinion change of him? What affect will this have on the girls ?

AmyG Frank seemed like a bit of a natural (father). Be honest and distract. He seemed more kind in that moment. (edited) 4d
RachelAmphlett I‘m frustrated that the story only alludes to Frank possibly having a family of his own in the past - I‘d like to know more about that and how whatever happened shaped him into who he is in this story. 4d
TheBookHippie @RachelAmphlett I AGREE!!!!! Give me the backstory!!! 4d
See All 12 Comments
JaclynW @RachelAmphlett @thebookhippie Yes!! I want to know! Do you think we will find out? @amyg I also think he seems like a natural. He seems like a real, decent guy...one who works with the mob 😬😈😁😱😆😉. 4d
Mitch He's definitely not new to fathering! He did a great job - it was a super well written scene and its moments like that that really separate this book out from the mob hit / chase / on the run type books! 4d
Sargar114 I agree @Mitch such a touching moment and it felt genuine. I didn‘t necessarily think of it as an allusion to his history but more of his growing affection for Charlotte and the girls. 4d
CoffeeNBooks I like that the author gives more depth to Frank's character through this scene- it definitely makes you want to know more about who he is and what his background story is. 4d
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Very touching moment that shows he does a have a heart!! I do want to know more about his background! 4d
kspenmoll He really was a great “father” to them; he said he did not know how to relate to children so he chose to be who he was with them. 4d
Mdargusch I agree @Mitch His understanding of children must mean there‘s family of some kind in his background. 4d
Hooked_on_books @CoffeeNBooks Almost exactly what I was going to say. It was a really smart way to layer complexity into this character in a subtle way and a short space. 4d
Librarybelle Frank has some fathering qualities. It was a great scene! 3d

Guilt. “My philosophy is that guilt is an unhealthy habit- it‘s what other people try to make you feel so you‘ll do what they want -but one life is all we ever get as far as I know why give it away?” Frank is giving Charlotte this advice along with ‘don‘t think twice‘ by Dylan -a hugely popular song at the time. Did he learn this ? Did he live by this? should we?

The song :

AmyG As a “mobster” I think Frank had no choice but to not think twice. Myself, I try not to second guess things. Make a decision and move on. Learn from it. But guilt? Ha. When I grew up it was considered a parenting skill. ;) 4d
TheBookHippie @AmyG I too -guilt a parenting skill, my great grandma told me to excel at guilt is to be a Jewish mother. 🤣🤷🏽‍♀️ 4d
JaclynW @amyg @thebookhippie Guilt! Oh man! It's almost hard not to fall for it. 😬🤪 But I do agree with Frank's advice that guilt is used by others to get what they want - which may or may not lead to a win/win for all parties. We should take control and be aware of this type of manipulation (whether done knowingly or not). 4d
See All 16 Comments
Mitch @AmyG Agreed! I think Frank is so used to looking at every angle - he's tired ! I too try not to second guess things - i trust my gut and i trust that whatever happens i'll make it work somehow! Guilt has a tendency to keep you living in the past i think. 4d
Sargar114 I agree @AmyG again! That lifestyle doesn‘t really lend itself to people who second guess. As far as guilt, I find it funny Frank is telling her this when he‘s the one manipulating her to get what he wants. Part of it may be that he tells her not to overthink it for self preservation. 4d
AmyG Hahahaha exactly @TheBookHippie. Guilt is in my Jewish genes. @Sargar Yes! About self-preservation. No room for guilt. (edited) 4d
TheBookHippie @Sargar114 or so she doesn‘t go back or feel guilty about leaving her husband ? Or to not feel guilty about what she‘s doing..it‘s an interesting interlude. 4d
TheBookHippie @AmyG 🤷🏽‍♀️ 🤦🏽‍♀️ I swear in motherhood I have it in spades 🤪 4d
Sargar114 I thought that too @TheBookHippie I‘m really liking the multiple dynamics of this book, it‘s a pleasant surprise 4d
AmyG @TheBookHippie 👊🏻🤣 4d
CoffeeNBooks I think Frank has to live by this motto in his line of work. Otherwise, he wouldn't survive. 4d
kspenmoll @CoffeeNBooks agree. The only way he can be part of the mob is to “ not think twice” & not give into guilt. 4d
kspenmoll @JaclynW @TheBookHippie @AmyG @Mitch @Sargar114 Guilt is so difficult! As a mom it seems we all carry some- But mostly over the years I have come to let it go. I was raised Catholic & guilt & were big. I chose not to raise my son in that Church as his thinking is black & white enough. 4d
Mdargusch I agree with you @CoffeeNBooks and @kspenmoll . He has to block the guilt out in order to survive. 4d
Hooked_on_books Totally agree with @CoffeeNBooks @kspenmoll @Mdargusch —Frank pretty much has to live this way in his line of work. I was raised Catholic and felt a lot of guilt in my youth as a result but have learned to shake it off. I found this quote really compelling and think it‘s a good way to live, though it shouldn‘t be used as an excuse for criminal or unethical behavior. I think a balance is possible. 4d

Shadows .Charlotte is fascinated by them and Frank then takes them on seeing them everywhere. A foretelling ? Does this feel like an elaborate chess game? Is he falling for Charlotte?

AmyG The shadows, to me, represent what they are running from...what lurks behind the scene. You can try to escape, but is always there. Yes, I think he is falling for her big time. Frank sees what could be...a different kind of life. 4d
TheBookHippie @AmyG I think the big time falling in love is happening -talk about bad timing !!! Running from their shadows I think too. 4d
JaclynW @AmyG @thebookhippie Agreed. I love the shadows representation. 4d
See All 18 Comments
Mitch @thebookhippie @amyg @jaclynw He's falling for her and the romance of having a family big time i think. Maybe he's liking playing the role of someone else - and maybe being with her removes him from the reality of the situation and his near death predicament. 4d
Mitch @thebookhippie @amyg @jaclynw He's falling for her and the romance of having a family big time i think. Maybe he's liking playing the role of someone else - and maybe being with her removes him from the reality of the situation and his near death predicament. 4d
Sargar114 He is absolutely falling for Charlotte as well as the girls I think. Good analogy on the shadows @AmyG I also think it‘s human nature for people to be more aware of something once it‘s pointed out to them. So I totally missed the shadows being something more. 4d
JaclynW @Mitch Good point. Maybe it is a bit of a distraction too. 4d
AmyG @Mitch I think what started off as something to disguise himself became a distraction...like you said. But now has become what could be...a possible future. 4d
CoffeeNBooks I definitely think the shadows are foreshadowing- Charlotte eventually realized that she didn't know any more than what Frank showed her on the surface, but she knew there had to be more to his story in the shadows of his life. Frank is playing a game of chess, with his life and the lives of others, and there's more to it than just each move he makes. 4d
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I think he is totally falling for her and she is for him also, but she knows there is more to him than he is sharing... 4d
kspenmoll @CoffeeNBooks I think too that the shadows are symbolic- both are living in them in a sense. I think he is falling for her, definitely. At first Charlotte & her kids were camouflage but now he seems to be enjoying being with them all. , I also like your idea that Frank is playing a game of chess, with all their lives. 4d
kspenmoll @Mitch He is playing a role, which is why Charlotte senses there is more to him. And it can let him escape a bit from the reality if his situation. 4d
Mdargusch Facing his mortality, I think he‘s thinking about all the things he‘s missed out on. Family life probably seems pretty good right about now. 4d
Hooked_on_books It‘s a total game of chess! And he‘s playing against Carlos, Seraphine, Barone, Ed, and even Charlotte. I think he‘s falling for her inasmuch as someone who has hardened himself to emotion can. He certainly sees her as a person rather than a piece of meat, like he treated women in chapter one. 4d
Hooked_on_books I think the shadows may represent that aspects of a person that we don‘t notice unless we truly look for them. Charlotte starts focusing more on the shadows as she understands she really doesn‘t know Frank—maybe she‘s trying to see his other aspects more clearly. 4d
TheBookHippie @Hooked_on_books Chess it is and so suspense filled!!!! I agree she is starting to really think. 4d
Librarybelle Oh, they're falling for each other! I honestly didn't read into the shadow representation, but reading everyone's responses, it makes perfect sense. There is this build up happening...the last section we read has to be explosive! 3d
TheBookHippie @Librarybelle I‘m staring at my book I‘m going to finish tomorrow when I‘m certain of no interruptions !!!! Ha. 3d

As we started this section ..
Frank “He felt another shiver” or memory when carrying the girls...Do you think Frank is subconsciously looking at his life closer knowing death may be imminent ?
Citing Dante and The Inferno. Thinking maybe he‘d make it out safely...Is he afraid do you think ? Has regrets? Or hoping for a different fate?

AmyG I am thinking this may remind him of childhood. It‘s obviously bringing up memories, perhaps one he has tried to supress. 4d
TheBookHippie @AmyG I wondered if fearing his life is ending his subconscious is working overtime .. 4d
JaclynW @TheBookHippie I agree. Knowing death may be coming would mess with your head. Bringing back memories or trying to create new ones would be common I think. I see him doing both. 4d
See All 16 Comments
Sargar114 That‘s a great question! Very possible. I was thinking that the “family” life that he is having right now may be triggering the life he had growing up or the family like he didn‘t have growing up. Maybe why he gravitated toward the mob lifestyle to suppress those memories. 4d
Mitch He knows his life is limited and perhaps senses this time he's sailing too close to the wind... maybe the shivers are memories of a former life before he got involved with the mob. I was wondering if he did actually have a family?? 4d
AmyG Didn‘t he have some memories about his sister? 4d
TheBookHippie @AmyG yes and her life. 4d
CoffeeNBooks I think he knows death is a very real possibility at this point, but might be holding out hope that he can make it out alive. 4d
kspenmoll @AmyG @JaclynW I agree. I wish he would give into those memories. I would like to know more how he became who he was. @Sargar114 @Mitch @CoffeeNBooks 4d
kspenmoll @Mitch It never occurred to me to think he might actually have a family! 4d
Mdargusch I agree @kspenmoll i never thought about his family either. I definitely think since he was on high alert, his senses were working over time. 4d
Hooked_on_books I don‘t know if he‘s scared exactly, but certainly highly aware. I like your thought, @Mitch , I never thought of him having a family. And I agree with @CoffeeNBooks . 4d
TheBookHippie @Hooked_on_books Right did he have a family and it was killed or help his sisters family and something happened ?!?!?! 4d
Librarybelle My thoughts align with @CoffeeNBooks ...there is this slight hope he seems to have. 3d
Mitch @Hooked_on_books yeah - there seems to be a real mournful feel about those but with him and the kids 3d

These little ones work so hard and were soooo excited for Kleenex, mittens and crayons today. We had to open a box of Kleenex because it said super soft and everyone had to feel one ❤️. Clorox wipes to help with germs completed our day. Kindness from strangers made 19 little people very happy today. 🥰I am overwhelmed with gratitude. “Miss Christine you book people friend is very nice. “ 😭

242 young men were killed the week I was born

11,616 killed the year I was born

58,148 were killed in Vietnam, 75,000 severely disabled, 23,214 were 100% disabled, 5,283 lost limbs and 1,081 sustained multiple amputations. Of those killed, 61% were younger than 21 years old. 11,465 of those killed were younger than 20 years old.

I started my life on an Army base,as my dad was drafted to Vietnam when I was 6 weeks old.
I have kids I‘ve mentored join the military. I have one nephew in the navy, one in the marines, and my goddaughter served in the army 2 tours of Iraq and Afghanistan. I have the utmost respect for our military. One of the biggest misconceptions about hippies that we hate the military, we loathe war, we are for peace. We love the people serving.

Did we miss anything you caught while reading?
Do you enjoy this writing style ?

While reading do you remember there are no cell phones -computers -security at airports -women have little rights-civil rights are nil-Vegas was the to the mafia..and it all wasn‘t so long ago.

kspenmoll Yes, it is clear that this is a very different time, and the mob did run some cities then. NY, Providence, Chicago. 2w
kspenmoll Love this cover. 2w
Mitch Indeed - although part of me likes the fact the crime, the corruption is all so close to the surface its in sight... today everything feels just as deadly but buried deeper 2w
See All 15 Comments
Hooked_on_books I‘m enjoying the book. It‘s building tension well and ably juggling multiple storylines. 2w
RachelAmphlett I‘m loving the writing style and I‘ve been getting completely lost in the setting and time! 2w
AmyG The second reading section got me hooked. I am invested in Charlotte, her kids and Frank. 2w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @kspenmoll me too!! I think we are the only ones!! Lol 😂 2w
Sargar114 I agree @AmyG! I think the the author has done a great job of keeping me in the time period. It‘s beautiful writing. I‘m really enjoying it now! 2w
Librarybelle This section went much better for me than the first section. I'm not loving the book, but my interest is piqued to continue the story. It's been interesting to be transported to the 1960s in this - my guess is, in 2019, Frank would have been caught rather quickly by Carlos' henchmen. So, this adds some suspense. 2w
Jess861 Really enjoying this read and the writing style so far. It is keeping me engaged and it is hard to put down when I finish reading the chapters to be discussed. Can't wait to see where this story goes because I feel as though it can go many different places. 2w
TheBookHippie @Jess861 I can‘t wait either half dread half curiosity but I love how it reads. 1w
TheBookHippie @Librarybelle my guess is it would happen so much quicker, it is so much harder to hide now a days! I am intrigued more in this section. I enjoy the writing style more this section. I feel I‘ve got a grasp on it now. 1w
TheBookHippie @Jess861 It is hard to stop reading!!! 1w
TheBookHippie @Hooked_on_books I think the writing flow is really smart. 1w

Where do you think the story is headed? This section went quickly!

kspenmoll I just have this premonition things may end badly- deaths. But I cling to slight bit of hope...Unlike Whitman, Guidry is not free to travel the open road while he is desperate for his life; Charlotte is, except she has to keep her daughters safe. (edited) 2w
TheBookHippie @kspenmoll RIGHT?! Maybe we will get a redemption story 😬...it can‘t end well 😫 2w
kspenmoll @TheBookHippie Redemption would be wonderful! I do like the characters, even rooting for Guidry despite his mob history 2w
See All 14 Comments
TheBookHippie @kspenmoll Right two different journeys searching for freedom! A life. Redemption world be wonderful unlikely but still wonderful ☺️ (edited) 2w
Mitch @kspenmoll I like the characters too - its a very fast paced drama - but im liking the writing and the way the author is really fleshing these characters out - they're really coming to life for me 2w
TheBookHippie @Mitch I like it more and more it reads faster and faster which I believe is purposeful . 2w
Mitch @TheBookHippie Agreed - its almost like you're speed of reading matches the frenetic journey of the characters - it can only end badly! 2w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I‘m liking it more and more, but worried about the ending for Guidry!!! 2w
Hooked_on_books I don‘t think it‘s going to end well for anyone. There‘s a dark seam running through this book for sure. 2w
RachelAmphlett Agree with @Hooked_on_books - I‘m enjoying it, but there‘s a menace lurking around the fringes isn‘t there? 2w
AmyG I think they fall in love And want to start a life together. I want it to end well but I am not so sure. 2w
Sargar114 I agree, this section was much better. I also think there will be redemption...but I‘m guessing specifically for Frank it won‘t end well (edited) 2w
Librarybelle I agree with others that this section read better than the first section. I'm still on the fence with the story, though. As we've said in previous answers to questions, there has to be a big climax, with potentially some of these characters losing their lives. Frank and Charlotte develop feelings for one another, and that will probably complicate matters. It should be interesting to see how things progress. 2w
Jess861 I think there will be death in the end - how much death is the question? 2w

Frank seems to be intrigued by Charlotte and the girls. Thoughts on this?

kspenmoll He seems to be figuring out a way to use them- camouflage maybe? Makes me nervous for them. Charlotte has never been anywhere outside her hometown & though she is determined, she has no experience outside that world. (edited) 2w
TheBookHippie @kspenmoll I keep thinking OH GIRL BE CAREFUL!! 😳 2w
Mitch @TheBookHippie Yes - there a lot of tension in these sections - i want to scream out at here like at a Punch N Judy show - “ behind you...!“ 2w

Mitch @TheBookHippie Another great photo! 🙌 🙌 🙌 🙌 2w
Mitch Im wondering if subconsciously Frank is thinking about his own life - and part of him might be wondering if he can play the role of husband / father - see what it feels like - an alternate path his life could have taken if things had been different 2w
TheBookHippie @Mitch RIGHT?!?! Yelling at book. I seriously want this dress now 😆 2w
Mitch @TheBookHippie And handbag! 2w
TheBookHippie @Mitch Sundays meant gloves for me until my 30s 😇 ha. So funny how quickly that all changed. 2w
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Mitch agreed!! But I also think he is using them as a cover. I think he will fall in love with her in the end though... 2w
Hooked_on_books I think he‘s intrigued, but I don‘t think he‘d have any compunction about shooting them all. It‘s who he is. 2w
AmyG I am thinking they fall in love. He is using her, she is using him...neither wants to be involved as each is so different than the other. I hear...love. 2w
Sargar114 I agree that the love story is on the horizon. Frank wasn‘t anticipating it, but since he knows the life he knew is on the kaputz that he subconsciously is open to a different life and Charlotte is more than he expected. And Charlotte is looking for different, hopefully better. 2w
Librarybelle I think both Frank and Charlotte are using each other as a means to an end. I'm pretty sure a relationship will develop. Where will it lead?? I guess we'll find out... 2w
