This is turning out to be a very strong year. I‘m getting sad when such fantastic books are getting knocked out of the running so early. But the winner will be for sure amongst my all time favourites. I can tell you just from the books currently in the running!

suvata Thanks to you, I just added The Trees to my TBR. 😎 10mo

Pickpick

27/23 I will never stop thinking about this book. Strange, dark, full of characters blurred somewhere between truth and fiction. It sucks you in and spits you out at the end, unsure of what has just happened. It was a wild ride. So much happens within is 200 pages. This is my #booked2023 #inmemoriam pick. Seabrook sadly died young and had only written two books.

Cinfhen I‘m intrigued 🤓 11mo

I am in love with this little book. I had never heard of it or the author before I found it in a charity shop. Definitely judged it by its cover. And on this occasion it paid off! It‘s taking me on a wild ride through the dark side of Kent and it‘s historical characters. I‘ve learnt about TS Elliot, Dickens, chimney sweeps, the artist Richard Dadd and I have no idea where we are going next! What a lovely surprise in a pretty package.

Ruthiella I JUST heard about this book on the most recent Backlisted podcast! Crazy book serendipity! 11mo
Magpiegem @Ruthiella I had an even WEIRDER coincidence. I went on Google to look this book/author up after I started reading it and came across a Guardian article from 2016. At the bottom of the article the writer mentioned she had done a podcast (I‘d never heard of) episode about the book. I went to look up it up . As you know, this weeks episode is a rerun of THAT episode on this book from 2016! I felt like I had fallen through a vortex 😂 (edited) 11mo
Ruthiella @Magpiegem Clearly you were MEANT to read this book now! 11mo
Magpiegem @Ruthiella so true! I wish there was a podcast by interesting people talking about every book I‘ve just finished! It was nice to hear other people‘s thoughts! I hope you read it so I can hear what you think! 11mo

Okay I like to try this too. I am open to anything but Harquin Romance, Graphic Horror, and Rom Com. I mostly read YA and Fanasty.

ShelleyBooksie Kingdom Trilogy by Keri Maniscalco, Others series by Anne Bishop - need to start at book one on both. Great fantasy :) 1y

A woman and her son are accused, Tried, and found guilty of murder in 1931 Detroit. They spend 15+ yrs in prison before the convictions are overturned.
My biggest issue, the author got a small detail very wrong. She mentions a city, Dowagiac, and states it is in Northern Michigan, a look at a map would show it is very much in Southern Michigan. This didn‘t have anything to do with the main story, if that detail is so wrong what else is wrong?

TrishB I hate finding stuff like that because then I mistrust everything else! 2y

Good book but the ending was a little unsatisfying. I‘m thinking that the next one may pick up where this one left off, but it was tough to read about the protagonist‘s internal struggle for so long with no movement either which way. I did love the setting and mystery, but the struggle over his struggle was real. 🤨

I love The Fens - a strange part of the U.K. landscape - lower than sea level and reclaimed many centuries ago and managed by ditches, canals and pumps. Excited to snap up this new book and return to this eerie landscape. #bookhaul

Long rock in Cornwall today. #VirtualTour

How was Tuesday? Got the hospital text done and out of the way. Hopefully will allow me to relax more during the second half of the half-term week, although already know will be down by two staff did to isolating.

CocoReads Not bad. Utter chaos at work up until about 2 but now it‘s not bad 3y

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Today seems like Idiot's Day Out as I've encounterd more than my usual share of them. Busy day in the office, but not much actual productivity. Hey, if bosses want me to waste time on stupid tasks & calls, so be it. Another cool & gloomy day. Hope to call it quits soon to head home for dinner, puppy cuddles, and a movie. 3y
Andrew65 @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Been wet and rainy all day, need sun! ☀️ (edited) 3y
TheSpineView Busy day at the office. Caught up at the moment but that will not last long. I still need to write a few book reviews. I always seem to be behind on those.🤪 3y
kezzlou85 Wet day but a good one as visited my local library. Gotta keep supporting them in these tough times. 3y
Andrew65 @kezzlou85 Months since I‘ve been in a library. Such limited hours that don‘t fit with working hours. 3y
TrishB @Andrew65 that‘s why I never get to the library! Tiring day as I‘ve had a couple of days off and forget how exhausting looking at a screen all day is! 3y
kezzlou85 @Andrew65 ah yes of course. I'm lucky to be able to go but I've only been picking up books pre ordered so far. Not stopped for a proper browse yet. 3y
tracey38 Gonna be a busy work week and also the last week my mom will be staying with me before she can go home and doesn't need full time help. 3y
Lynnsoprano @kezzlou85 Hubby and I are doing the same, putting holds on books and picking up when notified that they‘re available. Not ready to browse yet, even though we‘ve seen the industrial size jugs of hand sanitizer 😄 3y
Lynnsoprano @andrew65 Warm and sunny here. Still being careful of my knee, but did a little gardening, trimming the banana AGAIN! Recorded another song for the church service, tried out a new microphone arrangement that didn‘t work, so back to the little mic in my iPhone earphones. 3y
kezzlou85 @Lynnsoprano yeah ours has them too but I'm still a bit hesitant. Plus its all on one floor now so feels a bit crowded. Easier to just order and collect. 3y
