4🌟 This was a moving and interesting deep dive into the authors experience in the sex trade industry. Taking the reader through the ups and downs of the job, the toll it takes physical and mentally, the women's fight for unionization and change and then eventually running the club on their own terms was inspiring! At it's core it's a story about female empowerment, of women taking a stand and refusing to be discriminated against any longer.

A fascinating autobiography of how a college student who turns to stripping in order to support her education and how both her and the strip club grow over the almost decade that she works there. An intimate and real look at strip clubs, Jennifer discusses all the downsides of being a stripper, but also the invaluable ideals that it taught her.

cw: racism, anti-semitism, misogyny, sexual assault

Lesanne Sounds interesting! 4y

A short light read between the heavier books-just perfect, and funny 😆

PI Marco Fontana investigates the death of a writer who was gunned down in Philadelphia: a mugging that went wrong as the police claim or a hit put out on him by a spurned lover or by people who did not want the research in his latest WIP to surface?

Enjoyable, twisty, puzzle. Marco is lots of fun and both his PI business and his side business bring him into contact with a intriguing mix of characters both professionally and personally.

The Garden of Last Days | Andre Dubus III

A girl with a daughter who works in a strip club, an extreme Muslim who has crazy ideas of what Allah expects from him and a man who has been thrown out of his child's life for physically abusing his wife. These three characters converge at a strip club and nothing good comes from it.
However, the writing is so well done, the weaving of story lines so well executed, that it elevated material I would normally find extremely distasteful.

I read this 10 years ago and decided to reread it. I believe this book is the reason my sister became a stripper ( and possibly more). Still an interesting look into the sex industry.
