I absolutely absolutely absolutely loved this book. It was strange, full of fae and magic and blurred lines and grief. Not for the feint hearted. Desperation and motherhood and loss and deep deep pain. Ireland and the dark side of fairy stories. ✨🖤🙌🏻 so good.

😭 me and my 6year old son had a rough morning. With our addressed mail in hand, we strolled into our library in our new town ready to get our new card. We had to leave empty handed, because at this branch they won‘t give one unless your license has the current address on it too. We‘re both autistic, and we just were not prepared for the change in plans/rules from our last library to this one. So disappointed. Now we will have to wait weeks. 💔😭

Such a Fun Age | KILEY. REID

It starts out so fun. The characters are lovable, and then as their flaws are uncovered you are slapped with your own choices. To support them? To love them? To despise them for their actions? Very intense subjects hidden under a playful story. Very easy to apply to the real world. An important complex book that‘s easy to read. I‘d love to shake hands with the author of this one. The audio book was excellently read.

Mehso-so

The first part of this book was hard for me to get through and grasp, I wasn‘t a fan of the writing style, and I feel like so many of the “dystopian” details could have been better explained. I couldn‘t get a good grasp on a lot of it. However the theme of the book was such an overwhelming and great message that it was worth muddling through. I wouldn‘t read it again, but feel it‘s an important book to read at least once.

Happy Jólabókaflod litsy friends!!!
We celebrate this holiday every year, and do our book exchange on Christmas Eve. I got bill clinton and James Patterson‘s book- a president is missing. I‘m excited to start it. And I got my husband and son a book to read together- tagged. They both struggle with reading so hearing them share this and bond over the story makes my heart happy. Especially since I so loved these books as a kid!

wordslinger42 Your care package will be in the mail by the end of this week 💜 I'm so sorry for taking such a long time in getting it to you! Help!
Hey everyone! I haven‘t been on in so long- my apologies. I was severely sick in the hospital for a bit, and then I had like 6 clients in a row the last few months (I‘m a birth photographer) so Iv has very little time to post about my reading.
Alas, I need your help!!! Why does this say condensed from the book?? Am I not reading the full version?

callielafleur I'm sorry you've been ill! I would say that the condensed version is not the full version. 3y
Amabear @callielafleur why would anyone do such a thing 😂 3y

LibrarianRyan It means it has been shortened. they remove some scenes, or take out descriptions. The idea is that it makes it easier to read. 3y
Eggs Welcome back 🤗 3y
Amabear @LibrarianRyan well I dislike this idea. I feel like it‘s unfair to the author. I suppose I understand why but still. 3y
Amabear @Eggs thank you! 3y
LibrarianRyan @Amabear I completely agree. RD abridged books that never needed to be abridged. But then again I hate classics retold for kids. Do t even get me started on The Great American Classics series. 3y
Amabear @LibrarianRyan oh really? Tell me 😂 I want to know all the things! 3y
LibrarianRyan @Amabear I wrote it wrong. The great Illustrated classics are and old and still popular series for kids that dumbs down the classics. They also “clean” them up and take out controversial things. So kids think they have read all these classics and as they get older and actually have to study them, it can lead to difficulties in classrooms. 3y
Clare-Dragonfly I had a similar thought and read the full, unabridged Les Miserables. But it had so much unnecessary description that I‘m sure an abridged version would have been better. My husband argued with me when I said the Battle of Waterloo was boring 😅 3y
Amabear @LibrarianRyan oh yes I just read something on that. That would be frustrating (edited) 3y
Amabear @Clare-Dragonfly lol! I haven‘t read that one. I tend to like long drawn out rants so we‘ll see how I feel about this one. 3y

I LOVED this book.
The author did a stellar job at telling an amazing twisted story, while connecting the era and its issues to modern day points of view. This book was SO readable, it was a pleasure read and I forsake my book clubs to finish it. I was so caught in the story, so torn between characters, if drove me wild in the best way. So much meaning and great quotes too! I will have to read this one again at some point.

Just finished the audiobook on my road trip today. I really enjoyed this book, and had the beautiful eerie feeling of having read it or heard it before- and not just because of the Disney movie. Such a grand reflection on childhood, such a uniquely written book. I love love love the clever and beautiful style of writing, and the lovable knowable characters- and love that their flaws are so prominent to their story. Forever a favorite.

My little bookworm- stealing my books since he could crawl. I can‘t wait until he is ready for me to read him chapter books. Right now he‘s very independent, loves exploring chapter books by himself (often upside down 😂) but he‘s not quite to the attention span of letting me read him a book with no pictures.
He LOVES carrying them around though. Every time I set a book somewhere he takes it and “reads” for a while. I love it.

I wanted so badly to like this book. If it wasn‘t for a litsy read, I would have bailed. It was so hard to get through. It was easier after they got to the book traveling bits- but before that I had to force my way though. I didn‘t like the writing style, the dialogues felt rushed through, and overly dramatic, but then other parts felt like the characters weren‘t feeling enough. It felt rushed, it felt like the reactions were wrong (continued👇🏻)

Amabear And used at the wrong times, and it was really confusing how much was pulled from other books and eras. I feel like she tried to make a Harry Potter bad guy happen, and it didn‘t really work. It just wasn‘t believable. I really loved all the ideas, (edited) 4y
Amabear Some very very cool inventions and police aspects, but felt like they were too forced, jumbled, and didn‘t flow well together. I feel like she tried to do too much in one book. I hate giving bad reviews but I really can‘t help it here. 4y

Woahhhhh. This book.
The writing style was so easy, effortlessly brilliant. I didn‘t have to try to imagine the scenes because the writing was so good. That‘s my favorite kind of book. This book had a beautiful chilling love story, so many well rounded crazy characters, and of course the ending infuriated me. Which made it even better. It‘s not often I love a book with an ending like this, but definitely 4/5 stars for me. A real page turner!

My FAVORITE read of 2018. I had previously read a few meh books, this was such a joy! It got deep,it made me laugh, it was fascinating. A touch of fantasy, a ton of culture, unique well rounded characters that you loved or hated with passion. An amazingly well written book that I must own a copy of! LOVED it!And I never would have picked it up without #LMPBC
The Italian origins and funky superstitions were so fun. And I loved nonna!❤️

This book was thrilling. It challenged many ideas, and very obviously made one think about things we‘d sometimes rather someone else think about.
I wish it had gone deeper, I feel like it just brushed the surface of so much, and left the reader wanting for details. I felt connection with the sons lacking, and the “schooling” of the daughter neglected where it should have not been. I also did not like how nicely the end wrapped up,(continued in C)

Amabear With no consequences for the main characters choices both in her marriage and in the end scenes. I feel like I do with so many books, that the ending was left too short, with not enough details. I felt like the main character didn‘t care enough at the end, for what she left behind. I also feel like so much was left out between siblings and neighbors that I wish was explored more. A sequel would be amazing and almost necessary to the story. 4y
Amabear Still, despite all that, this book was really really good. It gave me the dystopian thrill, and made me angry and sad, and is definitely a pick for me. I still wish it was more packed though if that makes sense! (edited) 4y
Amabear Last thought- as a parent, I feel like when she had her words back, she made NO visible effort to coach her kids or retrain her daughter like she said she would. That pissed me off. As a parent there is nothing I would have wanted more then to talk to my kids about these issues when I had the chance and she just left it hanging. 4y
LiteraryinLawrence That is a really good point (what you said in the spoiler). I just finished this one and felt very disappointed in the way everything was resolved. 4y
Amabear @LiteraryinLititz what were you disappointed by specifically? I love talking about this book! 4y

Working my way through this book today and detoxing from holiday rush. It‘s good for me to be mad at literary characters instead of real life ones right? 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

Did you know Iceland is the 3rd most literate country? And every November 1st a complimentary catalog is delivered to each home, that contains all the books published that year!? And then Christmas Eve is spent exchanging books and reading (you probably knew that part) Iv decided I need to move to Iceland. But until that happens, I‘ll continue adopting their holiday. ❤️
A blind date book for my sister and a Dino one for my son. 😍 I‘m so excited.
