When the English Fall is so unique, I had a hard time figuring out exactly how to describe it. The unorthodox form of a diary is the perfect format for this unpredictable story. It's a compelling read, but the pacing is oddly calm (rather like narrator Jacob). I was enthralled from the first page, rooting for Jacob and his family and community throughout. Williams writes beautifully.
