Hillbilly Elegy is the book you probably didn't expect to read this year — a memoir about the white working-class by a hillbilly-turned-Yale Law grad. The emotions I felt reading this book were as mixed as its ingredients. Laughter, intrigue, resonance, at times some watery eyes, and frequent Amens like in this highlighted sentence.
