Book Club Discussion Question 1: How does Despereaux‘s dream about the knight help him on his quest? #NCHPedsReads #MarPedsReads

DrSpalding I read this book many years ago when it won the Newbery. I will have to go back and brush up on the details! This book is very interesting in that it is written in four mini-books inside the one novel. Looking forward to seeing the posts!❤️📚 5y

Book 📖 Club Discussion Question: How does Jude come to realize that America “has its sad and tired parts too”? (p. 82) #NCHPEDSREADS #FebPedsReads

sam.michetti I think that Jude is coming to the realization that the postcard picture of America is not completely all that it truly is. While still a great country, and an incredible improvement from her war-ridden homeland, America still has an ever-growing homeless population, its own history with war, violence, famine, and heartbreak. I think she is coming to the conclusion that everywhere is torn between happy and sad.

simplychrystal she realizes that America isn‘t the perfect dream everyone says it is. 5y
Amandagrullon She saw the reality and she realized it was not the picture perfect place where the movie stars come from. There are real people with real problems and many conflicting ideas about what is right 5y
Giovanny_Vargas She sees that America isn‘t perfect because she now lives there and sees America first hand versus before even she would see America through movies she loved. She starts noticing America is filled with homeless people on every corner of the streets. Also, as she starts learning to read, she notices that in articles and magazines she‘s not as welcomed to America as she thought she would be. 5y

Hello PedsAcademy Readers! What do you think about Jude? What character qualities does she exhibit? How do you think Jude will evolve throughout the story? #NCHPedsReads #JanPedsReads

DrSpalding There are many qualities that come to mind however the first is brave! Making many text to world connections with what has taken place in Syria, my heart breaks for Jude and her Mom fleeing from her war torn homeland and starting anew in a strange place; especially as a TWEEN! #NCHPedsReads ❤️📚 5y
Channing_Austin I think Jude is having to grow up very fast. I find that she is brave and courageous, but can also be vulnerable at times. I think as the story continues, she will build confidence within herself! She is a strong young lady! #NCHPedsReads #JanPedsReads 5y
sydneydaniels So far, I am loving this story. It‘s very touching and relatable to a lot of children who are going through any type of move. I cannot wait to see how she grows through the book! 5y
Giovanny_Vargas I think Jude is currently trying to find herself and where she fits in the world! I think she is very kind and I‘m hoping as I read the story she builds confidence in herself! #JANPedsReads #NCHPedsReads 5y
sam.michetti I think that Jude is a very strong individual, with a mind of her own. She is becoming more comfortable with her independence, all while battling the transition from girl-hood to womanhood.
