I spent part of the weekend reading this at a yoga festival. The book is better than I was expecting (never read Hardy before), and the festival was a little more eh than I was expecting. 🤷‍♀️😀

kricheal I've always wanted to go to a yoga retreat/festival, but I feel like I'm not new age enough to go🤷 4mo
NHLibrarian @kricheal That was exactly how it felt!! 😜 4mo
kricheal @NHLibrarian I took my youngest(13 yr old) with me to a three hour long workshop in the spring and she giggled the whole time and I was trying to be serious about it. There was meditation and other things too, I held it together most of the time because I really wanted to explore all of this and she was my partner in crime...but some of the people get really really into the breathing. I had to keep my eyes tight shut. 4mo
kricheal I knew if I made eye contact with my daughter at that point I would've caught the giggles too. 😂😂 4mo
NHLibrarian @kricheal Yup! I went alone, but I know if my partner was there it would have been impossible to not giggle at the chanting and rapping. 4mo

I didn‘t read at all this weekend because we did some major spring cleaning. However, we did take some time to go see the first screening of “Change the Subject” a documentary about a group of Dartmouth students confronting anti-immigrant sentiment in the subject headings of library catalogs. They went all the way to the Library of Congress where it ignited the immigration debate on Capitol Hill. Continued ⬇️

Going to get a little personal: I‘m going through a rocky bit in my marriage and I‘d love your recommendations for relationship reading. People that stayed together, women striking out on their own, anything that doesn‘t assume traditional marriage is the strict default. There is no abuse and we‘ll be seeing a therapist, I think we are dealing with being different people at 40 vs. 22. Books about women and middle age also 👍. My email ⬇️. Thanks!

I like strong female characters, but for me, being strong means standing firm for your values while knowing the affect that has on others. Instead of strong, I found Miryem to be demanding without knowledge or forethought. While the men were either bullying or only considered the women by what value they were to men. The story was interesting, but the majority of the characters made this easier to put down.

ericarobynreads Thanks for the heads up about this one! 13mo

I just spent the past 6.5 hours reading and it was glorious.

This was a perfect mindless read after a few stressful weeks of work. It was a bit shallow, probably because it‘s the story of 5 people and covers 4 years. Despite that, I think it was still a pretty accurate depiction of high school.
