This was really interesting. I really loved the way it was written and all the characters. It was very much a character-driven rather than plot-driven story but even though not much happened until the last 50 pages or so, I was never bored by the narrative. This is a book that's going to stick with me for a while.

So far I'm getting a Brideshead Revisited/Thirteenth Tale kind of vibe from this 👌

delaneyjoyce Yep! It was a close call. All the beginnings I read were really interesting. But at least I know I have some probably-really-good books to read in my near future. 8y

Gorgeously written, and an absolutely lovely cast of characters. It's a very quiet book, a bit like waves crawling up to the shore, but so engaging and beautiful.

Whit Stillman's retelling is a fun concept, kind of a satire of an already satirical narrative, and it is cleverly done but at the end of the day I'd much rather read the original.
