Solid, high-level history that should serve as a 'jump point' for further reading on the war that continues to shape our nation. I appreciate the a-political approach that only military men seem to provide. Great suggestions for further reading in the back.

I like Jillette's magic and brand of libertarianism but this book was too rambly for me. Too many thoughts too fast and they all seem to be about sex. Was hoping for a more fun read.

The companion book to 'First, Break All the Rules', StrengthsFinder is a must read for teams and leaders of people. After reading this, I don't know how you couldn't change how you relate to your co-workers and friends, even. It's much more fun to compare notes with people who know you best; but an interesting solo exercise as well.

Finally a useful business leadership book. The author's conversational style helped this reader digest the 'Seven Essential Questions'. And while my habits aren't quite there, I do hope that my team of 26 see a difference. Much more enjoyable read because it's less about concepts (looking at you, Simon Senik) and more about doing.

Hindsight is a conversation between Justin and the reader. The connection is instantaneous. He speaks plainly and with passion as he relates events in his young life. Amid his stort telling, he drops wisdom which bespeaks an old soul. The photography herein is stunning. And while I'm sad the pictures outnumber the words, it's no less a fun read for JT and general music fans alike.

SarahHarts_books I'm sold! My kids hate how much I love JT. 😍😜 LOL 5y

Verbose historical read about The Dakota. Can't see this be appealing to many but history buffs. The author is in incredibly long winded and gets off on tangents that make the story less fun.

Reading this book was an exercise in perseverance. Unless you prescribe to Gilbert's notion of 'Big Magic'--the mystical kinetic energy that flows in and around you waiting for you to acquiesce--this book reads of nonsense.

I don't believe it's the author's intention to be self-aggrandizing but my goodness! Her creative 'plights' and name dropping become insufferable.

Gilbert is a relatable fiction writer. Not a life coach.

The Rains: A Novel | Gregg Hurwitz

Solid apocalyptic read with less zombies and more terrifying gore. The sci-fi lean provided the interest to the end. Written as entries in a journal, the author advances the story at a nice clip while creating characters to love and hate. Didn't see the cliffhanger of an ending coming... kinda bummed I don't have the next book in hand already.

Big fan of Elizabeth Gilbert. She makes this interesting point about killing fear. This resonates with me; however, I'm conflicted. She wants the reader to invite fear in to co-exist with creativity. 🤨

I tried. I wanted to like this book for four months. I do like this book. Sorta. Macy gets too far into the weeds and killed me with inane details that didn't advance the real story...a man's quest to save craftsmanship, his town, and the American Way.

You had me as 'ocular'. 🤓 Thoroughly enjoyed this read. Easily may favorite fiction of the year, so far. I haven't ever rooted for the enemy this much. Follett created a suspenseful world of espionage that hooked me and left my heart racing at the end. Thought the epilogue wasn't neccessary. I mean if you didn't see Bloggs and Lucy coming, I can't help you. I wanted Faber to win.

Enjoyed this #audiobook Read by the ghost writer and with Goggins' commentary at the end of each chapter, it's part podcast, part audiobook. Goggins' story is one of a kind. He is the harbinger of owning your shit. Not a popular opinion but certainly thought provoking. I did find the audiobook a little long in the tooth and found my interest waning toward the climax. Mad respect for Goggins, though.

Where the Amazon original series fails, I had hoped the book would deliver. I'm so disappointed. Life is too short to read a bad book. I love the idea--this surmises the Reich had won the war--the US is divided between Japan and Germany. The Amazon series has plot holes to drive a Mac truck through. Phillip K. Dick annoyingly verbose. #nope #canteven

Highly enjoyable Pride and Prejudice variant. In this one, Mr. Collins and Mr. Darcy swap bodies after being struck my lightning. Typical yarn of mistaken identities interwoven with the memorable names of Mr. Wickham, Lady Catherine and Mrs. Bennett.

Enjoyed this variant much more than others because of the well thought out story and lack of insipid dialogue.

Unpopular opinion alert!🚨 I've always found Twain to be boorish and insufferable. Imagine the possiblity to learn about someone through the food they eat. Enter Twain's Feast. This was a lovely #audiobook that explored Samuel Clemens and Twain through the lens of the food he loved.

While exploring prairie chickens, raccoon, oysters, and cranberries, you get to know the man and his legend.

Wonderful idea! Bring Dostoyevsky's Feast!

The book around Mel's five second rule is really a lot of fluff. Her TED Talk is more succinct and successful, IMO. It's simple enough. Just not easy.

It's a wonder I finished this book. The primary protagonist is straightforward Nightingale Nurse that doesn't suffer the religious leanings of the Irish. As expected, the climax leads much to be desired as the author gets bogged down (pun intended) in making everything/one as unlikable as possible. Bold move. Unless your interest is already present, I can't recommend this to anyone.

That what's I feel like reading this book. Lib has finally confronted the young chit of a girl. It was the mother! However, I'm perplexed by Anna. Why would she choose to stop taking manna as the watch began? Nothing untoward was spoken... unless their is some guilt around Pat?! As I see it, this book won't end in any way that will please me.
