Finished my last book for the #ChristmasCrimeChallenge hosted by @RaeLovesToRead !

I laughed out loud quite a bit reading this book. It is a bit mind-boggling involving ghosts, time travel and “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner”. Adams‘ love of computer science also figures in the plot. Lots of fun.

RaeLovesToRead I'm currently working on Seasonal and Supernatural! 3d
Ruthiella @RaeLovesToRead Awesome! This was such a fun challenge. 😃 3d
The_Penniless_Author Given how formative Hitchhiker's Guide was to my childhood, I can't believe I still haven't gotten around to reading this yet. 😖 3d

Ruthiella @The_Penniless_Author If you like The Hitchhiker‘s Guide, you will probably also enjoy this. It definitely made me chuckle. 3d
Hooked_on_books I read and loved all his books a couple decades ago. I‘m so happy to see his books continuing to endure! 2d
Ruthiella @Hooked_on_books I love his absurd sense of humor! 😆 2d

Crooked House | Agatha Christie

I enjoyed this mystery, typical of Christie's English country-house stories but not featuring any of her famous detectives.

The Man on the Balcony: The Story of a Crime | Maj Sjwall, Per Wahl, Alan Blair

My second to last #ChristmasCrimeChallenge completed.

These Martin Beck police procedurals from 60s-70s Sweden are well deserved classics of crime fiction. In this one, a child rapist and murderer is terrorizing Stockholm and police resources, already stretched thin, are under extreme pressure to prevent the next brutal crime. It takes hard work (little forensics and limited technology) and sharp patrolmen and detectives to succeed.

Cathythoughts Sounds good. I‘ve read some of these and have a little collection I found in a second hand shop. I must go back and read some again 👍🏻❤️ 4d
Ruthiella @Cathythoughts This is only the fourth that I have read so far, but all have been spare, no nonsense reads. 4d

Another completed #ChristmasCrimeChallenge

This novel isn‘t a mystery, but rather a psychological portrait of various characters with a twisted ending worthy of Edgar Allen Poe or a Twilight Zone episode. Three seemingly disconnected stories converge with macabre results.

LeahBergen I remember thoroughly enjoying this one! 7d
Cathythoughts I‘ve read some by her , she‘s very good. Stacking. 👍🏻 7d
Ruthiella @LeahBergen I thought it was excellent. And I didn‘t read the back or anything. Just picked it up based on her name, which is a fun way to read. 7d
Ruthiella @Cathythoughts I‘ve read a handful and they have all been very good. And her books are easy to find second hand too. 7d

Vicki Delany mysteries are a guilty pleasure for me. They're somewhat formulaic but always cozy and relaxing reads. This is the first in her series featuring the owner of a Sherlockian bookstore.

A very good installment in the Inspector Rebus series, in which Rebus investigates a school shooting that involves a family connection.

Zuhkeeyah Congrats on catching all the pokemon! 1w
kwmg40 @Andrew65 @bookaholic1 I agree. I've been reading this series mostly in order so far, though I've had to skip a couple that weren't easily accessible to me, and I appreciate the development of Rebus's character and his relationships with those around him. 1w
kwmg40 @Zuhkeeyah Thanks! I really enjoyed the Pokemon challenge this year and look forward to the 2025 challenge. @PuddleJumper 1w
Andrew65 @kwmg40 Definitely an interesting character. 1w

Mehso-so

It really wasn‘t as good as the first 1 which had a lot of world building & character development. This one now didn‘t need to set that up there could have been more action, trials, conflict, etc ESPECIALLY being written as a duology -I expected more. It‘s wasn‘t bad, but just kind of meandered.

I really enjoyed this book. It covers the lives of three women, Alison from the 1500s who is accused of witchcraft, Clem a woman from this century whose daughter has been badly burned and Erin Clem's daughter. This book covers some of the graphic history of witchcraft in the Orkney Islands as well as the power of modern-day cults and ancient curses 🖤

Tagging the first book in the series since this fourth one is not in the Litsy catalog. Published in 1987, it‘s a wee bit dated, but still not too bad and the mystery was pretty good. A bomb goes off at a cribbage tournament at an upscale hotel in Manhattan. Lt. Sigrid‘s partner, Tillie was there and is injured. She takes the case, but with two dead and two badly injured, who was really the intended target?

7th book for #ChristmasCrimeChallenge

Crazeedi I read another series by this author is really liked. May have to look for this 2w
Ruthiella Yes. I believe her Deborah Knott series is better known. I‘ve not read it myself (yet). 2w
