Marketed as a YA book, this zombie story is written quite simplistically but has enough tension, gore and death to appeal to a much wider audience. The story is set in London after a virus turns all the adults into the crazed walking dead, leaving the children to fend for themselves. Very enjoyable and with another six books in the series to follow, I‘m looking forward to more guts and blood!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

JillR My son and I read this together and loved it but then we didn‘t get on with the second book for some reason and never carried on... 3h
Ms_T I read this and the next three some years ago so I‘m retreading them and completing the series over the next few months. I hope they‘re all as good as the first... 3h

Essentially a love story but with an edge, this book draws you in from the outset and is a real page-turner. The twist in the tale is completely unexpected and even a little startling. I‘m eager to read the follow up books to discover how Lauren and Cal‘s stories progress. My only criticism is the numerous grammatical and spelling errors - this ebook would benefit from a thorough proofread ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A decent, entertaining and saucy read if you‘re after a bit of harmless titillation. This book is very much along the lines of Fifty Shades of Grey but - dare I say it? - the writing is markedly better. I‘m intrigued enough to want to continue following Eva and Gideon‘s story ⭐️⭐️⭐️

As a follow up to The Tattooist of Auschwitz, this book is the story of Cilka, a 16-yr-old who is convicted of spying for the enemy and transferred from Auschwitz to a Siberian prison camp. As you can imagine, the conditions are grim but this story is one of strength under horrendous circumstances and you‘re left with a feeling of admiration for Cilka and her prison mates. Not an easy read but ultimately a great story which I enjoyed immensely 5⭐️

I‘ll be honest here, I found this book to be rather dull and my attention wandered throughout large parts of the story. I think I‘ve indulged in it at the wrong time of year, when my head is full of Christmas, New Year, new house and new furniture. I may revisit it at some point but for now it‘s a so-so (I cant pan an Austen!) On a positive note, the narration of this audiobook is very good ⭐️⭐️

This is the sequel to Winter Dark but isn‘t in Litsy‘s database. Another fast-paced, high-action thriller which sees special agent Winter in numerous life threatening situations whilst trying to expose the bad guys. Great escapism that is well written and full of sass ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

After being missing presumed dead for 11 years, Kate reappears and brings mystery, turmoil and cunning. I‘ve been utterly gripped by this book over Christmas and found it to be a real page-turner. Told in one of my favourite formats - chapters of present and past, allowing the plot to unfold gradually - the story is shocking and heart-wrenching in equal measure. A must read for fans of suspense thrillers ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The third in the Stillhouse Lake series and another chance to see Gwen battle the demons of her serial killer ex-husband. This book was just OK, but didn‘t excite me as the previous two had.I felt the story was missing tension and instead seemed to amble quite nicely to the end when I wanted more action and pace. That being said, there‘s the fourth book of the series due for release in January 2020 and I‘ll probably get it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

An interesting look into the investigative journalist side of Stieg Larsson‘s life. His own life closely mirrors that of his fictitious alto ego, Mikael Blomkvist and as his experiences unfold it‘s plain to see where the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo characters came from. Politics and Swedish history play a big part in this book and it tended to get a bit bogged down with detail. However, this was still an interesting read ⭐️⭐️⭐️

When I bought this audiobook I was expecting a story translated into old fashioned and heavy English, dense with complicated imagery and challenging to the ear. How wrong I was! This translation by Emily Wilson is a joy to listen to and sounds so modern considering the age of the original poem. Winter is a special agent for QCHQ, tasked with infiltrating a gang of criminals running an assassination website. This story takes you into the depths of the dark web where murder for fun is thriving. Although Winter isn‘t a match for Lisbeth Salander (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), if you like a sassy action heroine who‘s highly intelligent and doesn‘t take any BS, you‘ll enjoy this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

While Lagercrantz‘s books will never touch the original Larsson trilogy, I enjoy reading about Lisbeth Salander. I felt this book had a good plot and plenty of Salander/Blomkvist chemistry and to that end it deserves ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Peterfox123 I didn‘t enjoy this one. It seems to me the author can echo the style of the original trilogy but is woefully inadequate in crafting plots. But, as you say, some Salander has to be better than none! 2mo

I tackled this 1400-page, 19th century tome as an audiobook and overall I quite enjoyed it. However, there were long sections of musings, ponderings and thought turmoil which seemed to take hours before the story eventually moved on and I found these parts to be really hard work. The essence of the story is good and because of that I watched the film version immediately after which I found much less arduous! A pick, but only just ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is such a good book and the whole series has been top notch. I don‘t remember what compelled me to read book 1 when it was published back in 2016, but every book has been a joy. Hilary‘s writing is faultless and her stories are gripping, tense and very clever. They wouldn‘t work as standalones as the personal lives of the two main detectives continue through the series. Thanks for the tag, everyone!

Day 1 of #7days7covers and this one seems like a very popular choice. I have the paperback version with the topless lady on the cover but I prefer this gorgeous ebook cover.

cleoh Oooh this is a great cover! I love the detail! 4mo
IvoryLunatic I have the little version with the lady on it I think but this one is way cooler. 4mo
Ms_T @cleoh @IvoryLunatic It‘s so intricate and the black background makes is really stand out. 4mo

ValerieAndBooks My copy is still TBR— I have to dig it out to confirm, but I think it‘s the movie tie-in cover 😂. 4mo
