pickWhat an incredible book. Beautiful language but emotionally difficult to read because of the young, 'retarded' narrator. The book touches on domestic abuse, unemployment, alcoholism but central is the internal struggle of Jimmy Flick to connect to and be accepted by those around him. A powerful read.
pickHad this book recomnended to me even though I am dismissive of sports. I was very impacted by the candour and vulnerability of Agassi, not to mention the strange world of tennis. Very reflective and I am still thinking about it some weeks later.
pickCaptures the Souh African landscape beautifully without overdoing the description and covers some of the less attractive societal issues without judgement. Great read.
