The Penguin Atlas of Women in the World | 
pickThis edition was published in 2009 so the data is a bit out of date, but it was eye-opening nonetheless. Full of chart, graphs, and maps it looks the lives of women around the world. Some of the key issues: domestic violence, women at work, murder, voting rights, motherhood, women at work, lesbian rights, women in government. Normally, my eyes glaze over charts and graphs but this was absolutely absorbing and quite frankly pretty depressing.
