Nothing Gold Can Stay
Nothing Gold Can Stay | Ron Rash
7 posts | 12 read | 14 to read
Ron Rash has been acclaimed as 'the best American novelist I have come upon in the last twenty years' (Scotsman), a writer with an 'exceptional quality of characterisation and storytelling' (Irvine Welsh). Set deep in the heart of the Appalachian mountains, this new collection of short stories confirms his reputation again and again. Nothing Gold Can Stay transports the reader to another place, and illuminates the world around us in unexpected ways.

I can‘t say enough good things about Ron Rash. His writing is so raw and powerful. This collection of short stories was no exception. Usually in short story collections I find myself liking some but not all. Not so with this one. Everyone was great, obviously some stood out more than others but not a bad one in the bunch in my opinion.

5/5

Recently discovered Rash and now have to read all of his works.

Kaye I loved his book, One Foot in Eden. Seems harder to find, but well worth the search. 6y
VinceReads @Kaye I haven‘t come across that one yet, I‘ll have to look for it. 6y
Kaye Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. ❤️ 6y

Those Who Are Dead Are Only Now Forgiven... I've never read anything by Ron Rash before and now I'm depressed and still have a ways to go.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Although not all of the stories grabbed me as much as some from his other collections, there is no denying that Ron Rash is a powerful writer.

MrBook You talked me into it. 8y

"Water has its own archaeology, not a layering but a leveling, and thus is truer to our sense of the past, because what is memory but near and far events spread and smoothed beneath the present's surface."
So true. I love Ron Rash's prose.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ron rash is a master of the modern South. He so effortlessly captures the despair, isolation, fear, and grit of the people who live in this region. Even though the stories are easy to breeze through, take time to reflect on what he's saying.
