#TBR: This is next on my list and I'm so excited to read it. @AlexMay and I had been talking this morning about literature and I talked about the reasons why I love poetry. Later on, when he came back from town, he gave me these lovely gifts! The Forward Book of Poetry 2017 full of the best work of the last year, and a beautiful notebook and pen for me to write my own. He's very sweet. He gets 10/10.

rain - Katharine Towers
https://www.artsderbyshire.org.uk/find_artist/articles/contemporary_artists/writ...

Seriously! One sunny (freezing!) day in January and I'm hunting out rain poems all over the show. But this is beautiful - the woollen comfort of dusk, and the iron and purple of evening 🌧🌫🌳💦🌧

Half a surreal one today - full text isn't online - but I have lovely images of bacteria, baseball and little green Waitrose tokens going round in my head now.

The Radio - Leontia Flynn
http://www.poetryireland.ie/publications/poetry-ireland-review/online-archive/vi...

Motherhood during the Troubles. The child's view, though, reminded me of growing up at the same time in rural Devon - the radio downstairs, bacon cooking, car lights passing the curtains, and the fear of all things Public Information Film.

SharonGoforth @RachelO Wow! What a powerful poem! Thanks for sharing this. 8y
DeborahSmall My husband was born in '69, in north Belfast this is exactly how he and his brothers lived. My father in law regularly being arrested for just being a catholic. IRA meetings being held in their front room without them having any say in the matter. Crazy times. 💕 8y
rockpools @DeborahSmall Wow. Can't imagine growing up in the middle of it. So scary. 8y

DeborahSmall @RachelO On one occasion when the army came into his are they threw down a roll of barbed wire, my husband was about 8 and had been at the corner shop, he was caught on the other side and the soldiers wouldn't let him through, my MIL grabbed the wire, cutting her arms and hands to get him across, all the time soldiers with guns pointed at her as though they were a threat! He took alopecia from stress after that. So many stories from the troubles💞 8y
rockpools @DeborahSmall So close and so recent - just shocking. And his mum must have just been living one long nightmare as well. 8y
DeborahSmall I laughed at the Valium part of poem. Was so true back then it was just the norm that every mother would need them. I've lived here for almost 23 years and there's still tension at times. The troubles have never truly just gone. People are still getting shot and families terrorised. Twice last week we had helicopters above us all day long 8y
rockpools @DeborahSmall 🙁I don't think I appreciated how much is still going on. 8y

I'm going to be joining in with #litsypoetry365, trying to read a little poetry every day. To begin I'm still working through the Forward 2017 book - I loved today's, which is told from the pov of William Blake's wife, and is about the power of art against hate. I think. http://www.forwardartsfoundation.org/poetry/from-joy/

Thanks for the challenge

SharonGoforth @RachelO You're welcome! Love this 💕 8y

from Brave - Harry Giles.

Also, I'm withdrawing all previous grumpiness about poetry collections. Currently more are Awesome than not.

And the previous poem, Upstairs: 😢

Ian Duhig - Bridled Vows ⬆️

Poetry collections are difficult! I guess I've just started to read more poetry this year, so I'm going on very little, but books by a single author give you more of a chance to 'get it' - their voice, their themes, their pace, the whole thing.

This, I'm not sure. Liking odd poems, but as a whole... I'm not really sure what to do with it. Maybe this is why I've hardly read poetry in the past 🤔

Help?
