Prairie Landscapes | Faith A Colburn
2 posts | 1 read
A cross between Ted Kooser's LOCAL WONDERS and Roger Welch's SHINGLING THE FOG, PRAIRIE LANDSCAPES represents the ramblings of one mind prowling around on the Great Plains. With its focus on families and landed communities, it brings you face to face with the land and its creatures.

She said his sister used to "give him the devil" because he didn't go to church on Sundays. But the land was his church, she said. [...] That's worship-- one man caring for his little bit of creation, sustaining it so it can support even the seventh generation.

Pickpick

This isn't a book I would normally pick up. Quite frankly, I was dreading reading another book of essays about nature. I was pleasantly surprised. Faith Colburn loves Nebraska and so do I. Her one-or-two page musings are easy to read. You'll find yourself agreeing with her, chuckling with her, and learning to appreciate this great gift we've been given: Earth. It wouldn't hurt to give the Prairie and the Sandhills a visit, either. 😊
