Mistress of the Vatican
Mistress of the Vatican: The True Story of Olimpia Maidalchini: The Secret Female Pope | Eleanor Herman
1 post | 2 read | 7 to read
Eleanor Herman, the talented author of the New York Times bestselling Sex with Kings and Sex with the Queen goes behind the sacred doors of the Catholic Church in Mistress of the Vatican, a scintillating biography of a powerful yet little-known woman whose remarkable story is ripe with secrets, sex, passion, and ambition. For almost four centuries this astonishing story of a woman’s absolute power over the Vatican has been successfully buried—until now.

Impulse buy from HPB today because I learned about the only female Pope while at the Vatican last summer!

GingerAntics Only female pope? As a kid that grew up Catholic and even went to Catholic school… WHAT?! 4mo
Texreader @GingerAntics Her portrait is in St Peter‘s Basilica! I‘ll have to tell you more after I read the book. I barely recall our tour guide pointing her out and giving us the brief explanation. St Peter‘s is quite overwhelming 4mo
GingerAntics @Texreader oh I would imagine. SO much art, architecture, and history to take in, in one place. I just got the ebook. I cannot wait to read it and discuss. (edited) 4mo
Dilara Oh I've heard of her! *Jumps excitedly* I read Olimpia by Céline Minard, which is basically 88 pages of her ranting and cursing (very inventively) when she is driven out of Rome. One of the angriest, and most powerful books I've ever read. I am a gentle soul and so found it rather unpleasant, but others might find it cathartic! (edited) 4mo
