It is captivating on so many levels. Bringing life under Stalin, where everything has a secret or double meaning, and then applies historical accuracy that brings Russia to life. Simon Sebag Montefiore once again creates a time machine through words.

I devoured the last half of this book. From beginning to end it was a tragic story. From Sashenka's mother, to the irony of Soviet parties at dachas, to Sashenka's fate. Overall, I'd recommend to historical fiction lovers and Russian history lovers
