I mostly lived this book. It was an easy read. Maggie is an energetic narrator as she leads the reader through one year. She is eleven, but very intelligent and precocious. Her father is sick, but, since we are experiencing Maggie‘s perspective, we only know what she knows and understands. The book made me laugh (excellent footnotes) and cry. I was hoping I could share this book with my fifth graders, but there are topics I prefer to avoid.

First the blue and white polka dot band is a bookmark that I got from DG! Secondly this book really is amazing! It says for YA but honestly I feel it should be JUV! 🤣🤣 But I'm also 35 🙄🤫 so maybe that's why! Seriously though this book so far is very heart felt 😭🤯🙆💯

I would use this book in my classroom because I think it is a way for certain children to relate to the character and how she is “unique“ or “different“ because of the things she likes as an 11 year.

The Meaning of Maggie written by Megan Jean Sovern. Chapter 1 p.7-16. Introduces an 11 year old girl named Maggie who is quirky and enjoys reading and writing more than normal for a child her age. On her 11th birthday, she is told that her dad is quitting her job, which is big news to the family. This book could be relatable for children who have an average/normal life which is then interrupted by devastating news.
