Grace Notes
Grace Notes: My Recollections | Katey Sagal
11 posts | 10 read | 18 to read
Gripping, singular, and gorgeously reflective, Grace Notes is a memoir told in essays by beloved actress, Hollywood veteran, and singer/songwriter Katey Sagalperfect for fans of Mary Louise Parkers Dear Mr. You and Patti Smiths M Train. Popular and award-winning star Katey Sagal chronicles the rollercoaster ride of her life in this series of evocative and beautifully written vignettes, resulting in a life story recounted unlike any other Hollywood memoir youve read before. Sagal takes you through the highs and lows of her life, from the tragic deaths of her parents to her long years in the Los Angeles rock scene, from being diagnosed with cancer at the age of twenty-eight to getting her big break on the fledgling FOX network as the wise-cracking Peggy Bundy on the beloved sitcom Marriedwith Children. Sparse and poetic, Grace Notes is an emotionally riveting tale of struggle and success, both professional and personal: Sagals path to sobriety; the stillbirth of her first daughter, Ruby; motherhood; the experience of having her third daughter at age fifty-two with the help of a surrogate; and her lifelong passion for music. Intimate, candid, and offering an inside look at a remarkable life forged within the entertainment industry, Grace Notes offers unprecedented access to the previously unknown life of a woman whom audiences have loved for over thirty years.

"I am getting older. It's time to write s**t down. When I'm doing my best thinking, in my car, I tell myself all the things I need to write down."

It may be safe to say I was shocked by what an incredible life Sagal has led. Profoundly sad at points, yet with a heart warming quality to see where she has landed. So much, much more than Mrs. Bundy.

The first part, when she talked about her mother and problems with drug and alcohol addiction, I didn't find that interesting. But when she got to the part about her kids, I was really touched by the love and honesty she expressed. Worth the read.

Not a book that I was super looking forward to, but I do enjoy her & decided to pick it up. It has several holds, so everyone else must be more excited than I am about it. I only have 2 weeks to read it, so I decided to prioritize it so I could get it done in the next few days.
