I can‘t be the only person who has ever looked at my own Instagram to see if I am happy.

She‘d been a listener all her life and tended to surround herself with people in love with their own voices.
I was very much drawn in to the world of 1975 Ireland. Cushla is an elementary school teacher who lives with her alcoholic mother and helps out in her family‘s pub at night. The story was tragic and at times sweet as she tries to help the family of one of her students and becomes involved in an affair with a married man.
I like the philosophical parts but the math talk is too much for a non-mathematician.
Satan is only interested in your soul. He doesn‘t give a shit about your welfare otherwise.
Will definitely be on my favorites of 2022 list. Speculative fiction that brought tears throughout but an ultimately hopeful ending.
I reminded myself that life was not a trade agreement, a calculated give-and-take, and not every affection needed to be returned in kind…
Won‘t most of us die in fairly unclimactic ways, our passing unremarked by almost everyone, our deaths becoming plot points in the narratives of the people around us?
A boy abandoned by his parents ends up in foster care and goes on to become a murderer. The story goes back and forth in time and through the voices of Ansel, his mother, his wife‘s sister and a homicide detective, and we see how one person‘s life can affect so many others.
Started this a couple of days ago. Cleo and Frank meet as they‘re leaving a New Year‘s Eve party in New York City and are immediately drawn to each other. Their story and the stories of their friends and families unfold. Not much plot but loads of character.
This novel of interconnected stories focuses on two women who struggle with the same things we all struggle with: friends, family, sexuality, careers. Very relatable.
I‘ve been waiting for this book for so long, I hope I haven‘t over-hyped it in my mind. I‘m pretty sure I‘m the first person to read this copy from my library!
I don‘t pick up books of short stories very often but I liked Writers and Lovers so decided to give this one a whirl! The characters were very human, with qualities we can all recognize in ourselves.
Liked this book very much! The setting of Cape Cod summers over many years is described so beautifully. The MC is in love with two men and you see how those relationships evolve over her life. Recommend!
Really enjoyed this novel set in Vietnam with alternating POV, imperfect characters, hints of mysticism. Oh, and snakes 😩
How sadness and shame are more than feelings; they‘re an illness, a terrible cancer that spins through the world taking lives in a hidden cyclical way that might never end.
We‘d just hit the sweet spot too: perched at the top of the arc, between all the crap you go through as a rising amateur player and the inevitable plunge that follows once you hit pro levels.
You understand that if you must learn to love a man, he is probably not the man you should be loving.
I‘m about 100 pages in and so far it should be called “Agnes Bain”. Well-written but not what I was expecting.
Nobody knew if he was looking to see if there wasn‘t somebody else coming to take him away or if he was trying to find the person who‘d left him behind.
...what was a sibling but a person you stayed tied to whether or not you liked them.
Like my mother, I had a locked box where I kept all my tears.
Homegoing was one of my favorite books of 2017 and so far Gyasi‘s second novel feels just as heart wrenching.
A perfect fairy tale for this cold December day!
Have never read King‘s books but I‘m enjoying this one. Main character is trying to write a book, living in someone‘s potting shed and riding her bike to work as a waitress. I‘ve heard it has a happy ending so things do get better!
Didn‘t know “the Donald” is a character!
I‘m enjoying this so far! Even if you‘re not into sci-fi, the cast of characters is very engaging. Just the distraction I need right now!
Can my melancholy soul take this book? We‘re about to find out.
I turned out to be stronger than I thought, but that‘s never a thing you want to have to test.
I‘ve been on the waitlist at the library forever! Very mixed reviews on Litsy. Let‘s go!
In some respects this is similar to The Expanse, which is very much focused on the characters. So far this seems equally about the characters and the world building, which is extensive. Ambassador Mahit, the MC, is a snarky young woman and who doesn‘t love that? 😁
Here in the Colorado mountains we are far from true spring weather. And social distancing somehow fits the mood of this book as well. Gothic, atmospheric, eerie. Loving it!
Threat of deadly virus will not stop the library book sale 😷
I keep finding myself drawn to books that are a product of these troubled times. Really gripping so far!
Perhaps it‘s just that we sense an absence of future, because the present has become too overwhelming, so the future has become unimaginable.
Have never read his books so thought I‘d start with stories.
A different kind of cop story. And with a writing style smooth as butter, I will definitely be reading Locke‘s other books.
I like the idea of a story about post-apocalyptic days where people come together and build a new world. (Instead of all trying to kill each other 😧)
Starting today. Seems like a very original concept for a courtroom drama.
