Five Came Back
Five Came Back: A Story of Hollywood and the Second World War | Mark Harris
2 posts | 1 read | 9 to read
Before the Second World War the Hollywood box office was booming, but the business was accused of being too foreign, too Jewish, too 'un-American'. Then the war changed everything. With Pearl Harbor came the opportunity for Hollywood to prove its critics wrong. America's most legendary directors played a huge role in the war effort: John Ford, William Wyler, John Huston, Frank Capra, and George Stevens. Between them they shaped the public perception of almost every major moment of the war. With characteristic insight and expert knowledge Harris tells the untold story of how Hollywood changed World War II, and how World War II changed Hollywood.

#MOREORLESS my favorite nonfiction of the moment (finished it an hour ago). This book kept me engaged and awake through two time zones, three states and four modes of transportation today. Excited to go home and get in my bed and watch the Netflix special and all these old movies from the WWII era. @Liberty

saguarosally Let's talk about that purse. That's one of my most wanted Vera Bradley discontinued prints and I rarely see it for sale (at least in a style I both want and can afford). How do you like it? 7y
crhealey @saguarosally It's actually my duffel bag. I love it a lot. It holds a lot and yet it's small enough that I can use it as a carry-on. I've had it for quite some time so I don't have any recs on where to get one anymore. 😕 7y
