Pema Chodron's Compassion Cards: Teachings for Awakening the Heart in Everyday Life | Pema Chödrön
1 post | 1 read
59 beautifully designed cards on the classic Buddhist practice of lojong for everyday inspiration and contemplation--with instructive commentaries by Pema Chodron to make the teachings accessible and applicable to contemporary life. Let compassion and fearlessness guide you and you'll live wisely and effectively in good times and bad. Here Pema Chodron offers a powerful method to awaken these qualities using a practice called lojong, which has been a primary focus of her teachings and personal practice for many years. In this boxed set, she provides all the tools needed to practice it in your own life. It includes: * an introduction to the practice * fifty-nine cards representing the full set of lojong teachings for daily inspiration and contemplation * practical commentary from Pema on the reverse of each card * a card stand for easy display * and an audio download of Pema's teachings on the related practice of tonglen. These cards were previously published as part of The Compassion Box.

This was my compassion card for yesterday, but I only had opportunity to sit with it today. I feel blessed that this pretty much sums up what I do in my job, but to sit and do this exercise mindfully, using both self- and other- oriented compassion is different, though it needn't be. Reminding myself that it's ok to be a work in progress 🙂

quietlycuriouskate Hey, I use these cards every morning! (Today's is "keep the three inseparable".) 5y
Suet624 This is a lovely practice as long as you don‘t hold on to others‘ suffering. 5y
Bookwomble @kathedron That's a good card, one I struggle with - I struggle with them all to a greater or lesser degree though 😄 My card for today is #14, seeing confusion in the four kayas is unsurpassable shunyata protection - luckily the commentary explains that. I'm a novice 🙂 5y
Bookwomble @Suet624 Yes, I visualise it as a transformational process, not holding on to, but reattuning. 5y
