1 post | 3 read | 4 to read
With imaginative lushness and narrative elan, Mehta provides a novel that combines Indian storytelling with thoroughly modern perceptions into the nature of love--love both carnal and sublime, treacherous and redeeming. A River Sutra | Gita Mehta

A well-loved book from 1995. (Price tag still intact; imported books were so affordable back then in Malaysia. Now, the cost of a paperback can buy several meals 😢) A retired, widowed bureaucrat sets up a rest house on the banks of the Narmada River. Various lives converge here. This book contains some of the best descriptions I've read about a life devoted to the practice & art of classical music. #bodyofwater #maybookflowers @RealLifeReading

batsy @Bibliogeekery I'd almost forgotten about it in my triple stacked shelves! I'm so tempted to reread too but I got to finish some books for review 😕 8y
RealLifeReading Why have book prices in Malaysia gone up so much? 8y
batsy @RealLifeReading The ringgit was pegged against the USD during the Asian Crisis around '98. After the pegging was removed the ringgit has just been in free fall against the dollar and various European currencies 😩 (there are a host of economic reasons for this that I'm not quite sure of...) 8y
