The Hope That Kills
The Hope That Kills | Ed James
2 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
The body of a young woman is found on the streets of East London, in the shadow of the City's gleaming towers. No ID on her, just hard-earned cash. But there is no doubting the ferocity of the attack. DI Simon Fenchurch takes charge but, as his team tries to identify her and piece together her murder, they're faced with cruel indifference at every turn--nobody cares about yet another dead prostitute. To Fenchurch, however, she could just as easily be Chloe, his daughter still missing after ten years, whose memory still haunts his days and nights, his burning obsession having killed his marriage. When a second body is discovered, Fenchurch must peel back the grimy layers shrouding the London sex trade, confronting his own traumatic past while racing to undo a scheme larger, more complex and more evil than anything he could possibly have imagined.

Mehso-so

Ed James‘s police procedural crime novel (the first in a series) is a so-so affair that offers up another tortured male police officer devoted to his job and to finding out what happened to his daughter but with little emotional intelligence and whose interesting plot is spoilt by an overblown finale that was too overdone to be believable such that while I kept turning the pages, I don‘t think I‘ll continue with the series.

Trying a new Detective series whilst still got my free trial of Kindle Unlimited. This one has a good rating on Goodreads, 3.86. The second one has a rating over 4.

EadieB @Andrew65 I‘ll have to check it out! I‘m going to see Mary Kubica tomorrow at 6:30 pm at a bookstore near me. Reading this today: (edited) 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB ThT‘s the only one of hers I read, which I enjoyed a lot. Enjoy tomorrow! 😊 6y
EadieB @andrew65 I will because we don‘t get too many authors visits in my area. Did you hear about the category 4 hurricane direct hit to North Carolina and Virginia early Friday? (edited) 6y

Andrew65 @EadieB Yes, will that be near to you. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 My Maryland house is the state north of Virginia but we have flood insurance so that‘s good. Could get some wind and rain afterwards in Pennsylvania but you never can tell until it‘s on the way. Jonetta is in North Carolina so not good for her. She probably had to evacuate. (edited) 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB Will keep my fingers crossed for you! 🤞 Stay Safe. 6y

Andrew65 @EadieB Will be in my thoughts. Weather not as warm in U.K. but tends to be more moderate. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 Thanks! Ocean is very warm right now and that‘s the problem too and then you have to deal with the tides. 6y
