Winner of the Barry Award for Best Thriller [2011] Winner of the 2009 ATKV Prize for Suspense Fiction (South Africa) Finalist for the 2010 CWA International Dagger Shortlisted for the 2011 Boeke Prize Shortlisted for the 2011 Sunday Times Fiction Award Finalist for the 2011 Macavity AwardBest Mystery Novel Finalist for the 2011 Barry AwardsBest Thriller FINALIST 2012 Dutch Crimezone Thriller Awards An unputdownable thriller from South Africa's #1-bestselling crime writer. Some would call Detective Benny Griessel a legend. Others would call him a drunk. Either way, he has trodden on too many toes over the years ever to reach the top of the promotion ladder, and now he concentrates on staying sober and mentoring the new generation of crime fighters mixed race, Xhosa and Zulu. But when an American backpacker disappears in Cape Town, panicked politicians know who to call: Benny has just thirteen hours to save the girl, save his career, and crack open a conspiracy, which threatens the whole country. A potent, suspenseful thriller, and a brilliant portrait of life in the country that will host the 2010 World Cup.

And here‘s my final #13inthree time! I thought I‘d end up doing more reading today than I actually did, but I hit that 13-hour mark!

📚Three books finished (2 previously in progress, and one started & finished today)
📚A couple of short stories read, and another book started
📚A little over 13 hours of reading, from Friday night to Monday night
📚A great weekend 😁

Thanks to @Samplergal for hosting this readathon!

Just about to start my timer for #13inthree... even though it‘s not yet midnight here in California. I figure I‘m not going to last until 11:59pm on Monday night, so I may as well both start and end early! And hey, just like happy hour: it‘s midnight somewhere...

MommyWantsToReadHerBook I got excited because I thought you were reading the Deon Meyer! 😂 6y
BarbaraJean 😂Maybe I should! Crime fiction isn‘t really my thing, but I do love the setting—and the reference to the World Cup in the book blurb! 😁 6y

Set in South Africa this is #SetInSouthernHemisphere.

This I've actually read. Strangely enough, at the moment it feels like my kindle is full of books that are still untouched.
