Day 17:A Book(s)📚when I need Inspiration-Throughout my career I‘ve faced a very similar prejudice to that of the recent uproar when that director made known that he didn‘t like hiring “Asian” Actors due to what he perceived to be a lack of facial “expressiveness”. Anywhere from my instructors👩🏼‍🏫 to supervisors I was told my “Asian” features made me a less competent Interpreter. These Books always Inspire me to look beyond their negativity🦋🌼

LibrarianJen That‘s so horrible! I‘m glad you‘ve fought through it though when so many would just give up. I have a friend who‘s an interpreter and she is always telling me horror stories like this. It seems like a super tough field to be in. 6y
MiyakoBunny @LibrarianJen I feel like it has its shares of ups and downs, but it‘s honestly been primarily rewarding for me personally 😊. Don‘t get me wrong I 💗 my job, & the actions of these people in no way reflect my general feeling of the profession itself. 🤗 I want to Thank you so much for your kind words it means a lot *hugs* 💕💕💕 6y

MatchlessMarie Don‘t let them get you down, this is such important work! We have gradually been learning ASL and have been incorporating it little by little in our daily routine. I think there should be more emphasis on it in public schools. 6y
MiyakoBunny @MatchlessMarie 💗*Hugs*I agree😊& Same to you w/what you‘re doing-I think that‘s fantastic 😃💕! 6y
RohitSawant Ugh, sorry you had to put up with that. Hope you don't come across people like the kind you mentioned in the future. It's so great that you love what you do and don't let exchanges like those put a damper on things. 💜 6y
ValerieAndBooks What!! That‘s crazy. I have had ASL interpreters before who are Asian and they did a great job! That said, the profession does seem to be mostly Caucasian women. 6y
MiyakoBunny @rohit-sawant Thank you for your kind words & encouragement 😊💞💞💞 6y
MiyakoBunny @ValerieAndBooks Exactly! That‘s the crazy part is that I‘ve never once had any complaints or negativity from clients & when I bring this up as a retort to “said individuals” saying my “Asian features” are a “hindrance” they sometimes come back w/“Oh the Client is probably just too polite to say” in which I reply “Excuse me but culturally speaking Deaf people are known to be Straightforward” yet still they insist & still I persist 😃🌸 *hugs*💞 6y
ValerieAndBooks You‘re so right about Deaf culture having a tendency to be straightforward 😊. Hugs back to you! 6y
iread2much That‘s ridiculous. One on my very good friends is 日本人、and her son is deaf, I‘m sure she would have loved to worked with someone with Asian features. Good for you for working past all that negative BS. 6y
MiyakoBunny @iread2much 💗Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words🌸 & I agree it‘s ridiculous & positivity is onward & upward past their BS for sure 😃💗💗💗 6y
iread2much @MiyakoBunny thank you! We need more diverse people who can speak ASL! 6y
