Painting as a Pastime
Painting as a Pastime | Winston S. Churchill
3 posts | 3 read
Best known as a stalwart wartime leader and statesman, Winston Churchill was a man of many talentsnot the least of which was painting. Throughout his life, Churchill painted to relieve his mind from the demands of leadershipand to stave off depression. Included in this volume are Churchills meditations on painting as a salve for the spirit and an important method of relaxationparticularly for people under considerable stress over a long period of time. In addition, it includes 18 reprints of Churchills original work in oil, giving the reader a window into the little-known creative and artistic talent of this prominent figure in contemporary history.

Churchill's thoughts on painting as a hobby. Picked this up after reading a biography on him earlier this year.

Really enjoyed Winstons thoughts on his rational for taking up painting...most notably “To be really happy and really safe, one ought to have at least two or three hobbies, and they must all be real.” Great quick read!

Feeling a blog coming on about these two books that I'm loving. Food for the soul.

MemoirsForMe Cool! How's Anne Lamott's new book? 7y
Sydsavvy It's beautiful. Some real angst but true to Anne, plenty of mercy. Beautiful. 7y
