Rose and Elmer have created an idyllic sanctuary for themselves and their five daughters in Mexicos Baja California desert. Out there in the middle of nowhere, blissfully cut off from the burdens of modern society, theyre free to raise their beautiful familyand preserve its secret. And theyre never giving it up. Then a young hiker named Rick comes looking for a place to stay. Its just for the night, he saysbut long enough for Rose and Elmer to fear theyve made a horrible mistake. As the stranger grows more intrusive and more suspicious, the couple know they must do what they can to protect themselves. What they dont know is that Rick has a secret, too. Soon, home and family will prove to be as cold and dark as the desert nights. And even with so many places to run, theres still no escape from the past that binds them.

🤮blech! That‘s how bad this was! The most annoying people ever with no character development whatsoever. The repetition of dialogue and bad behaviors all around make this a cringey read.

Exceptional. Stayed with me long after I finished it. The characters are forced to make difficult decisions, plenty of which ticked me off, but the author nailed the emotion. Weird. Disturbing. Riveting. Could shape up to be one of my best reads of the year.

It‘s hard to put into words how much this book effected me. I have never experienced such a wide range of emotion while reading - most of it being anger. Yet, I finished it and can‘t stop thinking about it. It‘s a suspenseful book and very dark but unlike anything I have read. Anyone else read this?

Rachbb3 This sounds really good! Stacked! 7y
