🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

SAGA is one of the best ever graphic novels aside from the Sandman of course. I honestly cannot believe how much they can pack into each volume.

The characters, the story, the monsters, the creativity and wow, the social commentary is brilliant! Whoever would have thought of Dung Monsters lol!

Some of the best characters are the Robots and their square TV heads which use pictures to show emotions. Love that!

🌟🌟🌟🌟Was this predicable? Yes. Was this a bit too perfect? Yes. Was it a bit schmalty? Yes. I don‘t care! I love octopus, I love Marcellus, Tova, Ethan, and Cameron and it made me feel good. I didn‘t give it 5 stars because It was predicable which took a little away. Still highly recommend.

🌟🌟🌟🌟A wonderful story about a young 14 year old Nigerian girl navigating her way from a small country village to the city of Legos in search of an education so she can be free of a life of servitude. The book shines a light on trafficking, and poverty with just the right about of hope. I recommend the audio version to understand the broken English better.

🌟Very unpopular opinion but I just can‘t continue. 2 weeks to get to page 200. This read has been a chore and there are too many others to read. Ive read her before and felt the same way. I just don‘t think Kingsolver is for me.

Bklover I can‘t even count how many time I‘ve tried to read The Poisonwood Bible! I don‘t seem to be able to read her either. So you aren‘t alone! (I‘ll give this a try at some point though!) (edited) 1mo

Tamra @BookMaven9 not in my opinion. 🫤 Personal preference of course - but I only recall enjoying her Poisonwood Bible. But that was many years ago and I don‘t recall it in detail. If I read it again and it is as heavy fisted as Demon, I probably wouldn‘t give it a thumbs up. (edited) 4d

🌟🌟🌟A well written story of the 3 brides of Dracula as told by the first bride. The writing is atmospheric and sets the tone wonderfully. However the story is lacking on so many levels. This was reduced to romance only. It could have been epic with more story about the brides themselves. A missed opportunity.

❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️ Absolutely stunning sequel to The Bear and the Nightingale. These books are rich with Russian lore woven beautifully into a story all it‘s own. The best thing about this is how immersive they are and how you can fall into the world effortlessly and leave this one.

The tale continues with Vasya and the winter-king with many layers of deep storytelling and emotions. It may be cold and harsh but winter never looked and felt more warm

❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️ I know very little of Russian folklore and this was full of wonderful fey, woven throughout with strong character and world building. A perfect story to read in the cold winter during christmas. I love how the author illustrated the way religion has pushed out the old pagan stories of other cultures and how our beliefs in the old world can keep the spirits alive or destroy them by stop believing in them.

🌟🌟 First of all, I‘m not a fan of hard boiled fiction and second of all if you‘re going to create a Lovecraftian story, that genre doesn‘t mean you just use words like old gods and tentacles and think that‘s what you got.

Lovecraft created an atmosphere so thick you could hardly breathe. It was next level!!! It‘s so much more but than just it‘s lore. This was a fail! Other authors have done way better.

🌟If Elizabeth Zott was a time traveler from the 21st century, maybe, but this was the most over the top, preachy and unrealistic books Ive read in a long time. I went with the reviews ugh! I want characters not caricatures. I feel the same way this author does about things, but to write a weak story around the topics was just lazy. Ill deep dive into my non fiction books to know those subjects. No 4 year old would read Nabokov.

🎃🎃This definitely did not live up to all the hype around it. In terms of mood and tone, it did not feel spooky at all. The characters were cardboard people and everything felt rush, like the guy just mailed in the book to fill a deadline. It was fast paced and mildly entertaining but overall, I could have skipped this one and not missed a thing.

🌟🌟🌟 A mis of Grimm + Lovecraft + Ray Bradbury all woven into this story quite well, kudos to Mr. King. The first part of this book comes in strong. King is masterful at building characters and relationships. Sadly when you reach the fantasy portion the book slows down and loses steam for me. Nothing will compare to the Talisman.

The story runs between 25 years past to present day as Simon reveals the why of it all. It definitely keeps the pages turning.

🌟🌟 I have always loved Shirley Jackson‘s style is dark and atmospheric much like her other books. I found Merricat an interesting character study in someone who suffers from mental health from abuse. The reactions from the townsfolk who were really the true monsters here was appalling. That‘s is where the true horror lies in this reading.

However this one didn‘t drop the jaw as her other books have for me.

🌟🌟🌟3.5 actually. I needed a fun Godzilla monster story with lots of action and fun for the soul. Oh and don‘t forget the alternate world which is another favorite genre. Only gripe was that it threw lots of 2020 horrors in the mix which takes me out of the story and puts me in the funk I don‘t want to relive. I feel the same way as Scalzi about 2020 and perhaps writing about it in cathartic as a writer, but I need to escape this world.

🌟🌟🌟🌟read at your own risk! This is a realistic look at a nihilistic society that I can see happening in this overly capitalistic, consumer riddled world. I didn‘t get as emotionally invested as I thought due to the clinical way it all presented itself. But legalized cannibalism and farming “humans” and learning the process was enough. Trigger warnings: graphic, animal abuse (I skimmed that page)

🌟🌟🌟🌟 . I started with Wayward Pines and haven‘t stop! What an interesting and fun author.

Upgrade is a wild ride from beginning to end. A lot of the concepts in this book and just an arms reach away from us in terms of what our further may be. Making this so near in the future it makes it all feel so probable.

If we could upgrade humans for the better would we? This is a pretty loaded questions. Read this and find out!
