Mr Tiger Goes Wild
Mr Tiger Goes Wild | Peter Brown

Mr. Tiger knows exactly how you feel. Fed up of tea parties, top hats and talking about the weather, he astounds his friends when he decides to go . . . WILD. But does he go too far? After all, the wilderness can get pretty lonely. This beautifully illustrated and brilliantly funny book from award-winning artist Peter Brown shows that there's a time and place for everything . . . even going wild.

This children‘s book could be used in a classroom to share the message with children that being different is nothing to be ashamed of. That everyone has something different to bring to this world, and that we shouldn‘t be scared to share it with those around us. Because who knows it may bring out feelings in others that they didn‘t know they possessed.

The use of color in the illustrations throughout this book help the reader to more clearly identify tiger as an “outlier“. For he is a vibrant color orange, while the other characters and objects are composed of very dark and dim colors. Later in the book when tiger finds himself in an environment where he sees he fits in, the colors depict this through the use of more vibrant and diverse colors than seen earlier in the story.

I could use this book in my classroom to show students that its okay to be different and to always be themselves. Mr. Tiger has an internal struggle because he cant relate to the other animals. Due to this, he chooses to go to the wild to gain a new perspective. When he returns, he learns that it is good to be yourself.

This book uses color to convey Mr. Tiger. At the beginning of the book, everyone and everything are dark colors. Except Mr. This allows for the audience to see that Mr. Tiger feels different from the others.

I enjoyed reading this book because the illustrator does a great job in conveying the story through color and shape. The shapes in the wild are more organic, while the shapes in the town are more structured. Students can use this book to determine what the colors mean and how they can use them to discover the deeper meaning to the story.

This is a good book for children to develop an eye for the meaning of color. At the beginning of the story the book's setting is all black and white, a boring town. Then Mr. Tiger realizes he wants to be wild, he leaves to go into the wild, which is covered in color. By the time Mr. Tiger comes back to the town the people are more accepting to different ideas. The illustrator uses color to convey the message of the story.

“So Mr. Tiger ran away....“
This quote displays how Mr. Tiger felt more confident as he was able to be his true self in the jungle compared to the city.

This story is about a tiger who dares to be different and stand out in a world where everyone seems the same. It is a great and fun story about being authentic and yourself, no matter what the status quo may be. I really enjoyed this story and I think early readers would too.

I am the self-designated “Book Aunt“ for my five nieces, all 2000+ miles away and all under age 6. I used to buy them hardcover editions of classic children's books that I found in excellent condition at used book sales until I discovered that not everyone (or their parents) enjoys getting used books as gifts. One of those situations where “do unto others“ breaks down. No problem, though...gives me an excuse to stay up-to-date with picture books!

TheAromaofBooks Oh weird, I can't imagine not enjoying used books! 4y
ImperfectCJ @TheAromaofBooks I know, right? I like a book with a history, but I've talked to several people who avoid even library books because they find it unpleasant that the books have been who-knows-where. I guess it's all about perspective. (edited) 4y
Princess-Kingofkings Oh my ~ I love buying used books. 4y

Mr. Tiger Goes Wild by Peter Brown is a beautiful F picture book that all elementary educators should have in their classroom libraries. It teaches children the importance of individuality and being yourself in a very unique way. Students and teachers alike will love this story. A teaching strategy that would align with this book is a DR. #UCFLAE3414F19

karlasanabria1 The teacher resource activity kit linked is directly from the Peter Brown website and an excellent source for all educators, http://www.peterbrownstudio.com/downloads/Mr_Tiger_Activity_Kit.pdf. The UDL Guideline I‘ve chosen is highlighting patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships (3.2). While the ESOL Strategy I‘ve chosen is asking numerous questions that require higher level thinking responses (36). 4y

Mr. Tiger Goes Wild, by Peter Brown, is such a beautiful MF book. The pictures were amazing and it won the Golden Kite Award. It is about a tiger who lives with all the other animals in the city and one day decides that he wants to live in the woods. This book would be fun as a DR, allowing the students to act it out and enjoy themselves.

jmartucci You can activate background knowledge (UDL 3.1) by asking the students if they‘ve ever seen these animals anywhere, like the zoo. ESOL strategy 4, link lesson topic to students‘ prior knowledge, allows the students to recognize they already have some understanding. This website has some fun activities for this book.

#SongsOfSummer Day 20: this is an immensely powerful book that celebrates the richness of diversity and being true to one‘s self without necessarily distancing one‘s self from everyone else. Mr Tiger eventually found a happy compromise without sacrificing his integrity or his truth by being one of them #WildOnes. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-deX

Peter Brown (children‘s book author/illustrator) shared this picture of him in Sicily on his Instagram account today. Is this gorgeous or what?! 😍

P.S. If you haven‘t read “Mr. Tiger Goes Wild,” you‘ve got to. It‘s one of those picture books that adults can absolutely enjoy. It‘s about how to shrug off the tight reins of society, while still managing to appreciate community. 💞🐯✌🏻

BriannaR This is a great story to us as an RA, S, AS, RT, and DR. This is a link found on Mr. Brown's website that are fun interactive activities that students can do to make the story come to life http://www.peterbrownstudio.com/downloads/Mr_Tiger_Activity_Kit.pdf. A UDL Strategy that would go perfect wit this link is 1.1 because it's allowing students to gain there own perception of Mr. Tiger and his friends. Along with ESOL Strategies like 3, 45, and 46 6y

First post? Let's talk about one of my favorite books for Toddler Storytime. I like to read the proper parts with my fake British accent.
