First the Egg is an easy read that has a strong message. It would be a perfect nonfiction children's book to have in a classroom library for young children. It introduces the topic of lifecycles and transformations as well as inspires children about creativity and imagination.

First, the Egg by Laura Vaccaro Seeger is a nonfiction children's literature book. The picture book delves into the ideas of cause and effect and transformations. The book illustrates how things develop and evolve with innovative die-cut pages and straightforward, repeating text. Every turn of the page exposes a change from one thing to another, always accompanied by the words “first the,“ which appear before the original object, and “then the.“

“First the word, then the story“ This line really stood out to me because it describes how words can become larger and that it can make an abundance of stories.

blurb

First the Egg | Laura Vaccaro Seeger

This book is very direct in how the information is presented. It doesn't have a lot of words but the words themselves are powerful. I think that this book would be good for early elementary students when talking about transformations and how a small idea can become something large.

This book illustrates the many transformations we see in the life. It starts off with an egg to a chicken then proceeds to a word to story. This book has little words but the illustrations speak louder than the words.

Review:
This picture book is very simple, but the awe comes from the pages and illustration. The illustrations are great, but as you turn the pages, each page uses the last to create something new. It is something I havent' seen a lot and reminds me of the hungry catepillar.
Blurb:
This book would be good for students in prek-1st grade. It's not difficult but good for beginner readers.

Super cute how the title page has a picture of an egg rather than the word “egg”. I also liked the holes in the pages foreshadowing to the next sequence of life!

I liked how the beginning of the book has the egg first and then the chicken and at the end of the book it‘s the opposite because this is still a mystery to me which comes first.

This book can teach students small lessons! I like that it is an easy read but gets the point across. Also, poses a debate in which whether chickens or eggs come first.

It is also a good resource to teach children about the succession of things in a fun and enjoyable way for them. This book was very simple, but at the same time very intriguing. A lot of thought had to have gone into the cut outs and layout.

First the Egg by Laura Vaccaro Seeger, published in 2007 and a Caldecott winner, was an interesting book. I enjoyed it a lot, especially for younger grades, because it shows how things change from one to another. It shows the evolution & changing of things in a very simple matter, which is important for young grades to start to understand. It was multiple examples of things in nature or, like paint, that changed.

This 2008 Geisel Award Winning NF book by Laura Vaccaro Seeger is great for a RA. It is a great book for students to learn where things came from and what they will become. It is a great book to teach sequencing and
http://wiseowlcathy.blogspot.com/2017/04/first-the-egg-sequencing-mentor-texts-C... is a great resource to extend on. EL 44 which deals with thinkong skills, in this case sequence, and UDL 3.2 which highlights patterns and

alyssahp big ideas, are both met in regards to this resource. The resource not only has a sequence activity, but also has an audio RA which is great to use as well. #ucflae3414f17 6y
Jbombardiere I‘m glad you incorporated an audio read aloud to go with the assignment, it‘s always nice to have that option as well! 6y
DrSpalding Audiobooks are excellent for all students especially emergent readers. Second language learners, visually impaired and below level readers benefit from this option. 6y
