"Here's the real story. It all began when we hired those troublesome Chang brothers"
I probably wouldn't use this within the school, just because it is a little longer of a story and there is not much of a plot, I feel like the students would enjoy reading it but maybe independently.
The Real Story of Stone Soup By Ying Chang Compestine (2007). This story talks about a folktale about stone soup. This story tells what the true story is. Through this story, 3 boys go on a day fishing, when it is time for lunch they have to figure out how to cook without the pot and they make a soup from the ground. The three boys put rocks in their soup and the older man questioned it but discovered how delicious it was

I think it is adorable how the book also includes a recipe for egg drop soup even though in the story the boys trick the old fisherman with “stone soup”!
The Real Story of Stone Soup by Ying Chang Compestine, 2007. Traditional Literature. The illustrations within this book are very effective in setting the tone. The illustrators use of watercolor helps to make the story come to life. The young boys in the story trick the fisherman into working for them for once while they prepare a meal for themselves. This book really gets children involved and introduces the idea of critical thinking!
I loved this Chinese version of stone soup, which is cooked in the ground. The author mentioned that on a trip to the Xi Shaung Ban Na region of China, she had an Egg Drop Soup version of this soup, which inspired the story. Can‘t wait to try the recipe detailed within! 🍜🍜🍜🍜
