"Where are you from?" This seemingly simple icebreaker has become the source of confusing discomfort for many in my generation. With increasing numbers of people growing up in different cities across the globe, trying to choose one place to call home is next to impossible. Many of us come to realize that home exists mainly in our imaginations. Apophasis is my journey of navigating the world of liberal arts colleges while keeping in touch with my past through Facebook messages with a friend from back home. I extracted the main themes from our correspondence and developed upon them, trying to articulate the wordless: growing pains, existential angst, nostalgia, homesickness, love, despair, God, and hope. Through it I have come to terms with the beautiful dream I call home, with all the people, buildings, cities, houses, scents, parks, seasons, and memories I love.
