The Precipice
The Precipice: A Novel | Paul Doiron
9 posts | 11 read | 7 to read
In this riveting new novel from Edgar finalist Paul Doiron, Bowditch joins a desperate search for two missing hikers as Maine wildlife officials deal with a frightening rash of coyote attacks. When two female hikers disappear in the Hundred Mile Wilderness-the most remote stretch along the entire Appalachian Trail-Maine game warden Mike Bowditch joins the desperate search to find them. Hope turns to despair after two unidentified corpses are discovered-their bones picked clean by coyotes. Do the bodies belong to the missing hikers? And were they killed by the increasingly aggressive wild dogs? Soon, all of Maine is gripped with the fear of killer coyotes. But Bowditch has his doubts. His new girlfriend, wildlife biologist Stacey Stevens, insists the scavengers are being wrongly blamed. She believes a murderer may be hiding in the offbeat community of hikers, hippies, and woodsmen at the edge of the Hundred Mile Wilderness. When Stacey herself disappears along the AT, the hunt for answers becomes personal. Can Mike Bowditch find the woman he loves before the most dangerous animal in the North Woods strikes again?

This series is so good. This one started a little slow for me but I was completely hooked by the end just like I have been for all the books in the Mike Bowditch series so far.

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐This mystery was a quick read for a summer weekend. Very evocative of the Appalachian wilderness.

Paul Doiron‘s mysteries are wicked good and PRECIPICE is no exception. The story takes place and around the Appalachian Trail and the setting is fascinating. Through-hikers, coyotes, and a terrifying family compound combine to yield a thrilling read.

Only good thing about being home sick is finishing another book. Catching up on this series - and still loving Mike Bowditch and the Maine landscapes.

SO much good reading this month-horrible weather and the “creeping crud” kept me snuggling in with a book or listening whilst knitting. Particularly enjoyed the murder mysteries/police procedurals. Would love some recommendations!

January‘s been a great month for reading! Paul Doiron‘s Mike Bowditch series keeps getting better and better – The Precipice was number six. So good, especially if you‘re interested at all in a great mystery, the state of Maine, and/or the Appalachian Trail. Run You Down was another excellent mystery, helping me learn more about the highly-Orthodox Jewish community. And Time‘s Convert allowed me back into the world of the All Soul‘s Trilogy folks.

So, I'm watching a t.v. show about Maine Game Wardens while reading a mystery about a Maine Game Warden. Unintentional. Turned on Animal Planet and there it was. Love this mystery series.

[DELETED] 2232195534 I keep wanting to start this series. Soon, soon... 8y

The author does a good job of describing the beauty and danger in the Maine wilderness. I like the main character and have read other mysteries by Doiron.
