I liked the second volume of the Rois maudits series, but slightly less than the first one. I am prepared to chalk it up to pandemic brain, though, because once I got a bit of reading mojo back late this week, I perked right back up. The title scene is chilling, and the end sets up the action of the next book nicely without being a cliffhanger per se. Onward!

Yay, my new Maurice Druons are here! Going to add book 2 to the on-deck pile right away 🤓 I love how not-enormous they are 🤪

I'm missing volumes 2, 3, and 4 of the Rois maudits series. So I decided to support my local indie and order them online. They appear to be similar editions to the ones I found secondhand, so they will at least sort of match.

This was the 💯th book I read this year, which I finished on 31st May. This is the series that George R R Martin called the original Game of Thrones. Due to his pushing of the series all the books have now been translated into English - a great series. #emjoinov

Gezemice I love this series! Read it a long time ago - way before Martin wrote anything. I loved it. 7y

Finished this quick read, which is book 2 in the series. This one was much quicker to get into as I already knew. All the characters from book 1 - which helps. Another very enjoyable read and demonstrated how far people can fall in the changing of a King! Also demonstrated how little decisions can drastically change the outcome. On to book 3!
Hopefully will get one more book finished before the end of May.

Have now started the second book in the Accursed Kings series by Maurice Druon. This starts up from where the last one finished off, I'm not sure the new King is up to the job! Such machinations in the background! Who'd be King!

Melissa_J Yay! You'll pass me soon as I've only read the first two 😉 8y
Andrew65 @Melissa_J This one is quite a short one too, already approaching halfway. Good to read them close together whilst you remember the characters. 😳 8y
writerlibrarian This series. Fell in love with Robert D'Artois and never looked back. Read these in my teens after seeing the French series filmed like live theater. No Louis X is not a good King. (edited) 8y
Andrew65 @writerlibrarian Glad not alone in this. I think we could see even when Phillip the Fair was alive that Louis was going to be a very weak king, not even a honeymoon period! 8y
