Two of my favorite bookish pleasures come together in this novel: a strong, suspenseful plot that kept me reading, and a historically based story that kept me learning new stuff. Amber Jackson expected a quiet summer to study ancient Christian Art, but on her very first day she realizes her life is in danger. Bees, monks, Molotov cocktails, and deluded scholars all conspire to rob her of the peaceful season in Greece she was looking forward to.
