I'm confused about why I didn't like this poem. Maybe it's because I am not a rap connoisseur. Maybe I missed the important points but it just didn't "pop" for me. I really wanted to like it.

Tbh, I didn‘t feel like I “got” this collection. There were some AMAZING lines which really resonated with me, but overall, I wasn‘t really sure what all of it meant. Dawson uses a lot of biblical and hiphop references, which aren‘t something I know a lot about. She does tie these references to present politics and society, which is where the book shines for me.
Although @ times a little lost, overall I enjoyed this poem. I may not be the target audience, but I still gained something from reading this. It‘s 1 of the things I love about poetry: everyone is able to take away something from it.
Dawson weaves culture, religion ¤t &past events together to create a rhetoric that‘s not much seen in literature. She looks at what it is to be black & 2be a woman in today‘s society.
