From the award-winning author of Esperanza Rising comes a riveting novel about family and identity, drawn from the warmth, wisdom, and love of Ryan's own Mexican and Oklahoman heritages.

Audio. This is a children‘s book about two siblings whose mother visits after being gone for 7 years. That sets up so much on its own. As that‘s what the stories mainly about; the siblings, one selective mutism, one a physical disability, find themselves learning about their parents. This was a sweet glossed over simple story about a girl finding her voice. Extra point for diversity for them being half Mexican and how they explored their culture

This has been on my to-read list for quite a while. Naomi and her younger brother have lived with their great-grandmother for the last seven years since their mother abandoned them. When she suddenly shows up again, Naomi isn‘t sure how to feel about it. This is a great middle grade novel that focuses on Latinx characters and culture. #MiddleGradeMay
