“It wasn‘t like one of those scenes in a movie, where the princess floats lightly into the waiting hero‘s arms. I was more like an anvil that comes plummeting down on a cartoon character‘s head. I fell, like a graceful barbell, right on top of Neel.”
😆 made me chuckle.

An emotional rollercoaster of a story that gives the reader a glimpse into immigrants‘ lives. Mbue does a great job of sharing each character‘s point of view. I finished it last night at 11:55 at night...I just couldn‘t put it down. Needless to say, I am a bit tired today. We also had our first snow of the season during the night.

I worry sometimes that when we think of “diverse books“, we revert to thinking about kids/YA and school reading lists. I've written today about the importance of ALL readers diversifying their personal reading lives. Diverse reading makes us better people, and the world a better place. Plus, Her Body & Other Parties is a PERFECT spooky Halloween read! http://keepingupwiththepenguins.com/diverse-books-reading-lists/ #DiverseBooks #DiverseReads
A #mustread for everyone, whatever your thoughts or views on the lgbtq+ community. A heartbreaking retelling of what happened on bus 57 in Oakland, what led to those events, and what preceded them. The author does a great job at sharing both sides of the story and the flaws in our “justice” system.

Yestetday I started and finished listening to this heartbreaking and uplifting memoir by JVN. I love Queer Eye even though I cry while watching every episode. The Fab 5 are wonderful individuals who do so much for others. JVN is open and honest about his struggles, accomplishments, and aspirations in this memoir. I definitely love her more after listening to this. Yes queen, do you!!!💕💕💕 #JVN #QueerEye #diversebooks #LGBTQ #QueerBooks #memoir
