Pretend You're Safe was indeed a thrilling story. It had a great backstory, plenty of suspense, and the mystery was chilling and twisted. I wish I could give this story higher stars but, oh my gosh, the romance....just not a good one. Well, it could have been if it wasn't for Rylan. His reason for passionate pursuit of Jaci was weak at best. I found him to be the worst kind of alpha male. Overall, this story was fantastic with one huge exception.

Not a bad premise for a mystery/romance. I definitely wasn‘t 100% sure who the bad guy was until the end. I just thought the background was a little unbelievable- a girl is getting lockets with bloody hair and the police think she‘s joking? š¤·š¸»ā€¨ā™€ļø¸ The romance was just ok too. This is a switch from all the paranormal romance she writes, so I‘ll definitely try the next in the series.

To be honest, had I know this was a romantic thriller (with an emphasis on the romance), then I probably wouldn‘t have picked it up. Although Alexandra Ivy hits the usual romance beats in a way that will please fans of the genre, I found Jaci too passive who‘s there to be rescued and told what to do by alpha males who know better, the plot is a little silly at times and the antagonist two dimensional. Ultimately this just isn‘t for me.
