Meet Amy Winter: Detective Inspector, daughter of a serial killer. DI Amy Winter is hoping to follow in the footsteps of her highly respected police officer father. But when a letter arrives from the prison cell of Lillian Grimes, one half of a notorious husband-and-wife serial-killer team, it contains a revelation that will tear her life apart. Responsible for a string of heinous killings decades ago, Lillian is pure evil. A psychopathic murderer. And Amy's biological mother. Now, she is ready to reveal the location of three of her victims--but only if Amy plays along with her twisted game. While her fellow detectives frantically search for a young girl taken from her mother's doorstep, Amy must confront her own dark past. Haunted by blurred memories of a sister who sacrificed herself to save her, Amy faces a race against time to uncover the missing bodies. But what if, from behind bars, Grimes has been pulling the strings even tighter than Amy thought? And can she overcome her demons to prevent another murder?

This just didn‘t grab me as much as I thought it would based on the description and the plot. It was good, but definitely not super memorable or original, in my opinion.

This is a tough one to review. Up until the last couple of chapters or so I really enjoyed the plot and set up of this story. This is a tale of a DI shaken by finding her biological parents were serial killers. She grapples with contact from her mother alongside a kidnapping. It was heavy on character exploration and light on actual solving the case.

Amy‘s fellow detectives are frantically searching for a young girl taken from her mother‘s doorstep. Amy finds herself having to confront the secrets of her dark past. She is haunted by fragmented memories of a sister who sacrificed her own life in order to save Amy‘s. Amy must race against time to uncover the missing bodies.

What if Grimes have been pulling the strings from behind bars, and has been pulling them even tighter than Amy imagined.

She receives a letter from Lillian Grimes, 1/2 of a notorious serial killer duo, that informs her that they are her biological parents and requests to see her. Amy is devastated by the news but agrees to the meeting as Lillian is offering to reveal the location of remains for their last three victims that have never been found.

Young DI Amy Winters has been chosen to lead an elite highly specialized unit that handles cases that are high profile. She‘s very capable of leading this team yet she‘s suffering from some blows to her personal life. One that could destroy her and is doing her head in as the British would say. This book has several different subplots going on which are all very interesting. I read this book in one day, that‘s how engrossing it is. What a thriller!
