A fascinating and insightful read. Its premise may suggest a sci-fi bent but this is actually much more human than that. It focuses on the personal impact of scientific advance - in the case "ovum to ovum fertilisation" (surely similar must be close in reality so no far fetched hockum here), in particular the experience of the 'father' mother. And some of her emotions I could really relate to - the self-doubt, the regret at the loss...⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

readingjedi Cont. from above....of her old life and, as someone who also didn't have a mum model, the sense of not having some knowledge or set of feelings that seem to be innate in other more traditionally maternal individuals. The writing stalled a little in places but I loved the growth of the 2 MCs. The ending was positive and empowered. 5y

Mehso-so

A couple in Britain become the first to conceive a child in a clinical trial of ovum-to-ovum fertilisation. They are hounded mercilessly by the press and protestors.

But at the end of the story, I was left with a bad taste. It felt like the entire book was only about punishing women for being involved in this trial. Where was their lesbian family? Their supportive community? Being gay doesn't mean you are on your own. Under the bus. Boo.

I'm about a third of the way into XX. So far it's a thoroughly plausible story of a couple who become the first in a clinical trial of ovum-ovum fertilisation. The British public are freaking out that allowing the technology will send men extinct.

This is worth a read!! Out today in the U.K., it‘s about a lesbian couple who have a baby using just 2 eggs (no male involvement at all!!), the media go mad, as do most men! Very topical, I think, and very well written.

Less wild science than I expected and quite down to earth.
At first the writing was a little clunky but 1/3 of the way in and we have hit our pace.
Now I am interested to see how the story will develop.
