The Last Witness
The Last Witness | K. J. Parker
3 posts | 5 read | 3 to read
When you need a memory to be wiped, call me. Transferring unwanted memories to my own mind is the only form of magic I've ever mastered. But now, I'm holding so many memories I'm not always sure which ones are actually mine, any more. Some of them are sensitive; all of them are private. And there are those who are willing to kill to access the secrets I'm trying to bury... A classic Parker tale with a strong supporting cast of princes, courtiers, merchants, academics, and generally unsavory people. Mehso-so

This was a very interesting idea, and I loved the ending, but it wandered off and lost me sometimes. I suppose if the narrator couldn't remember which memories were his and which weren't, it shouldn't be a surprise that I got confused occasionally!

It turns out I just don't care for KJ Parker. Of course the characters aren't supposed to be like able, but the writing style puts me off, too.

Anyone else have opinions about KJ Parker? I read one of the devices books a few years ago and really disliked it. I never could relate to the characters, and it was a long book that didn't go anywhere. This one's short, and hopefully more interesting.

bookwrm526 I have this one in an audiobook anthology I bought a few weeks ago, but I haven't gotten to it yet - it's the fifth one and I'm only on the third one. 8y
