St. Helena Earwig... “The myth that earwigs crawl into a sleeping person's ear is probably how this bug got its name.“

I thought that this is a good book to use for the topic of science/ earth studies to talk about extinction, endangerment, and other species are harmed. I would use this book at the end of lesson, due to the lack of description when describing what each threat means. I enjoyed the characteristics and illustrations in the book as well.

Gone Wild, by David McLimans, was published in 2006 and won the Caldecott Honor Medal in 2007. This book contains a singular endangered species for each letter of the alphabet. Within each letter, it provided the scientific name, the class, habitat, range, threats, status. At the end of the book, they describe different characteristics of each species. The author provides a variety of threats that have affected each species as well.

“L standing for Snow Leopard“ I didn't know the snow leopard was endangered!

I would definitely include this in my classroom library. At the elementary age kids start having specific interests, like animals. This would be the perfect book for one of those kids! I really like that this book is informational as well and spreads a good message.

“Gone Wild“ by David McLimans, 2016. Caldecott Honor Award. I really liked this book and it's illustrations. It's an alphabet book; each page is a different letter illustrated to look like an endangered animal. The page also includes some information about that animal. I think the illustrations are very creative and something kids would have a lot of fun looking through.

“Ethiopian wolves live in a very small territory, confined to isolated grasslands in the mountains of Ethiopia.” I liked this information about Ethiopian wolves because my brothers are from Ethiopia!

I like how at the end of the book, it gives you more information about the specific animal represented by the letter. It is very interesting to learn about where an animal comes from and how they are being endangered so people may want to bring more awareness to these animals.

I loved this book. I thought it was really cool how the letters of the alphabet were designed like the animal it is representing.

There really aren‘t many quotes in this book, just facts. So here is my favorite illustrations.

This was super interesting and a very informative book for children. It was super easy to read and definitely a page turner. This is so important for kids to read so they can start understanding endangered species.

Gone Wild by David McLimans was written in 2006 and is a Caldecott Honor book. This is an alphabet book in which each letter is represented by an endangered animal. I think this is great for children so they can learn their letters, but also learn about what endangered species are and why it is important to care about these endangered species. It was very cool how every letter was drawn with the animal tied into it.

“Naked, for this unusual fish, means that it has no scales.” I picked this quote because it shows further facts.

I liked how for each animal and/or letter the author included the class, habitat, range, threats, and status for further knowledge than only the alphabet.

It was a different book. It was a cool idea to incorporate endangered animals into the alphabet but I think it could make some children sad. The illustrations were well thought out incorporating the animal into the letter itself.

Caledecott honor book, 2006. Has an animal related to each letter of the alphabet. Great book to teach children about different animals and were they come from and habitats. Also tells about the status and threats of each animal.
